Just curious do you think Bill is lying? - hello it's me 2050
Pretty sure Chuck ran every signing through Clarke for his approval first.

Just poor asset management. They treat draft picks like we are in the Bob Clarke era of the team. - MBFlyerfan
It sure seems like Clarke still has quite a bit of influence in hockey ops. |

Any chance that Fletcher successfully pulled off the big brain move and spent to the cap per the mandate from Dave Scott and tanking at the same time? - StepfordSam

Chuck’s idea of a “retool”/ - landros 2
The "aggressive retool" did in the end have a positive impact. The results afterward showed Fletcher's inability to excecute a plan. There was so much debate whether to acquire a big ticket player or not. Remember they could have beaten the offer for DeBrincat. In the end, did not matter because the GM could not excecute a plan. I'll be shocked if Fletcher makes it past Christmas. |

I have a theory on torts signing. I am of the belief that no credible coach could possibly look at flyers team and direction (other than total rebuild) and think to themselves yeah this is doable or a good situation…
Torts is on record saying this is his last coaching gig….
No way is torts taking this job with some delusion that he can turn it around. Not with the dysfunction above him….
My theory/question… is torts just using this gig as retirement package? He GOTTA know he’s lucky to make it a year. Either he’s fired by some new gm or goes off the rails after losing his poop. But team will be paying him for 4 years.
I mean maybe not solely his purpose but he’s had to look at whole picture and be like (frank) it easy money right? |

The question was for Bill. Thank you. - Joe Nardone
Do you read Bills blogs?
He has extensively spoke on his feeling about JG |
|
|
|
My issue w the blog is it does not completely articulate the reason why the Flyers are in the position they are in today.
Remember what contract they could not move and who signed it.
Do you want to give up a potential shot at Bedard to rid themselves of JVRs contract and then double (or triple) down on the mistake by giving a winger 70 mill who will be on the downside of his career before we are good again?
This is a Hexy and Fletcher issue. Hexy left Fletcher with a group of overrated dmen. That’s their biggest issue still today. Hexy signed JVR which was a bad contract from day 1.
Did anyone here really like the JVR signing when it happened. Anyone?
I would agree that Fletcher has done a bad job here and should have been fired w the coach last year. 100%.
However, let’s not fool ourselves here. There is plenty of shyt to go around.
Not signing JG is one of the best moves or non moves this team has done in recent memory.
Who really thought signing JG was good for this franchise long term?
Who? Seriously, if you ran the flyers would you seriously have signed him?
Now maybe he had to placate Comcast or the advisors to give the old college try, but there is no way an educated hockey mind thinks signing a soon to be 29 year old winger to 70 mill over was a good idea. Maybe he earns roughly 40 mill of that deal. Maybe 45.. whatever. Are we winning the cup in that tenure?
I get why people are upset here, but again at least we did not double down on the sins of the past and anchor 48 or whoever our next GM will be with a contract that is far worse than even the JVR signing.
Be happy we did not sign JG. It would have been an absolutely terrible decision.
Just to clarify both Fletcher and Hexy are the reason why we are in this mess.
1.75 millon a 4 year for a guy that’s a goon and can take an occasional pk shift? I agree that is absolutely incredible… - Joe Nardone
Who is Bedard going to play with? A 34 year old Coots? Hayes? TK?
Our prospect pool is bleak and that's putting it nicely. We signed TK and Bee to ridiculous contracts way too early in their careers.
Chuck literally went out and got players who are use to being on losing teams. Never really noticed that until now. |

That’s the issue…his inability to execute a plan…I’m hoping it’s that because the alternative is he has “no” plan. |

Quick everyone….the Nic Delauriers presser is starting… - landros 2
It's hard to mock ND. Guy is a proud player, he's excited he got a big pay day. He is what he is. This is about the incompetent boob Fletcher. |

The best part of yesterdays presser was when he said Cutter Gauthier is part of the “aggressive retool”. An 18 year old kid, that’s playing in university hockey for the foreseeable future. Nice spin chuck. |

I’m fine with the player…but he is not a guy you give that contract to…not in today’s NHL. It’s an over pay on multiple fronts….something the Flyers can’t afford to do. |

He' s done as a GM. We saw plan B yesterday. In the end his obsession with having an adequate number of RH Dmen was his downfall. Look at the assets and cap spent to accomplish that task. Looking fwd to the next chapter after the Fletcher era. It will happen soon enough.

This franchise is an absolute mess, from top to bottom and in every area. I think the JG disappointment is mostly from the fact that the Flyers used to be a destination that great players wanted to play…that is no longer the case. JG is a great player, wanted to play here, and it still didn’t happen. This is a franchise devoid of a single star player with none in the pipeline, that we know of yet. This is the lowest this team has been imo. CF will be fired by January and Briere will take over on yet another long rebuild while we wait for all of these overpaid, mediocre, untradeable deadbeats contracts to expire. |

Yesterday was embarrassing as a fan. I never got so many texts of condolences in my life.
Not to parrot everything that’s been said but if we were happy dumping draft picks for Risto and TDA but not Johnny I just don’t know what to say. It all seems so pointless.
The contracts Chuck has signed here, the draft picks he’s thrown in the toilet - there is zero direction. He’s making it up as he goes.
What’s worse is I have zero confidence Briere is ever going to right the ship.
I’m not being hyperbolic - we are going to be bad for another decade. |
