Is there any sense that Scott and Fletcher are in immediate jeopardy as far as their jobs are concerned. I’ve watched this team for its entire existence and though I was young for the first years I cannot remember a more embarrassing day for this franchise. |

Will Comcast be able to hear the tens of thousands of fans this season shouting "Fire Fletcher" while sitting at home not watching the Flyers on TV? I certainly hope so. |

The GM and the entire hockey ops department needs to be purged. Nothing more needs to be said. - MJL
I would love to know how all the money they spent doubling the size of the analytics is helping the team.
Either Chuck ignores them except when needed at press conferences or it's staffed with friends of chuck/friends of hayes/alumni like the rest of the staff/roster.

I want the building to be empty. In fact the fans should organize a game where no one goes into the arena. Make them play in an empty arena. That would send a very loud message that would necessitate action. |

Been a die-hard fan of this team since 1970. This is absolutely rock bottom for me in terms of lack of direction, cluelessness, and futility by upper management. I sincerely WANT to be optimistic (as is my inherent nature) that things will change for the better. The reality, however, is that — as many of you posted, and Bill so eloquently captured in words — as long as the current ownership and Chuck are at the helm, nothing will change. |

Carolina was able to add Paciretty for "future considerations".
These two guys cannot be involved in the future of this franchise for it to ever get back to succeeding.

Bill,
Fantastic blog. I agree with pretty much every thing (which is kind of scary)lol…I think sometimes it’s easy to point fault and play Monday morning quarterback with decisions a GM can make, but it’s a pattern that Fletcher seems to have. He overpays to get things accomplished on almost everything he does. In a cap world for a below average talented team, that’s death. The mistakes just continue to snowball. Eventually it catches up to you and the Flyers continue to chase their tale. As a fan I see absolutely nothing to get excited about going into next season which is extremely rare for me.
I got the attraction, a Harvard educated individual with experience and pedigree. In the end though it’s about his decision making. He is just a very poor GM and until Comcast gets that figured out this team will continue down the path of being irrelevant. |

I’m not trying to be hypercritical of the team, but there’s no obvious plan here.
Deslauriers is a tough, honest player, but he is a non-entity offensively & a 4 year, $1.75mm investment in a guy like that seems a foolish use of resources, especially when Fletcher notes there’s young players that need a shot.
As I posted yesterday, it’s really not going to help trying to walk some middle ground where the team spends a bunch of draft assets and cap room on players like DeAngelo & Ristolainen and then asks them to assume a role that’s over their capabilities.
I just can’t see getting excited or spending time or money on an organization that runs back a team that was the 4th worst team in the league last season, except that team’s best offensive player has been replaced by Deslauriers & DeAngelo. - Jsaquella
The Deslauriers signing for both term and $ was mind boggling. The explanation was even worse.

The previous blog said JG was plan A, the bold face lying used car salesman GM said they never pursued him. Which is it? - PLindbergh31
If the Flyers knew he wanted to come here and if they were interested even a clown like Chuck wouldn’t have botched it by signing Tony D and putting himself behind the 8 ball cap wise. That is beyond incompetence.
Bill has said he was their plan A all the way. So looking at the entire situation it doesn’t add up. Maybe he wasn’t there plan A ? As the whole thing is very odd to me. This should have been a slam dunk if all the “reports” are/were correct. Or JG just didnt want to come to the Flyers. One or the other to me.
He could have signed him then made moves in the next month to get where they need to cap wise. Not ideal but doable. Using the cap as a crutch doesn’t float when looking at the entire situation.

Analytics obviously played a HUGE role in the signings of Deslauriers and DeAngelo.
I'm just not sure they understand the data.
We should check to see if the analytics team all has goatees. Were they hired from an opposite dimension where everything is upside down and back to front? Good is bad, bad is good. Rain falls up.
It's worth checking in to.

Is there any reason to hold onto guys like Provorov or Konecny now? You might as well start to see what value they might have, maybe you pry another 2023 first rounder away from someone who is a contender. |

Just poor asset management. They treat draft picks like we are in the Bob Clarke era of the team. - MBFlyerfan
In the Bob Clarke era you could spend your way out of mistakes and could be ultra competitive. The Flyers were always relevant or would die trying to be relevant. It was fun being a fan because you knew Clarke and Snider bled orange and black and cared as much as me. For all Clarke’s faults you can’t question his loyalty or love for what he thought was best for the Flyers. The direction was clear. |

Pacioretty is a big time point per game power forward. Teams are willing to take on a year of high cap hit for a player of that ability. Versus a player like JVR.

Oh I know.
Just saying the Flyers, where they are, weren't even able to do that. There is no outside the box thinking. No planning for what could happen. Hell we all knew that Vegas had to move guys because of the state of their team and might lose a good player or two.
The Flyers can't seem to see that? |

Thanks bill. Disappointed as well.
And agree fully on Oskar and the ND signing. Braun can be accepted. But the rest was just terrible. |

Yes there is. Can't empty the cart. Have to have players to at least be somewhat competitive to try and have an environment where younger players can be slotted correctly for development.

There isn't a franchise in the NHL that is in worse overall shape. From soup to nuts this is a mess. From Ownership, down to the guy who scrubs the poopters. I mean the head trainer has a lawsuit against the team. Absolute dumpster fire. - PLindbergh31
I would have thought maybe San Jose….but even they started to fix it yesterday. |
