Ellis they still have no idea of his timetable. Could be soon, could be never. Chuck is scared to make any assumptions.

They should be operating as if he'll never play another game for them.

The Flyers don't seem comfortable on whether Ellis will be out permanently or will play again. Is that a bad or good thing?
- MJL

I don't think he plays again. Might be totally wrong but I get the sense they just don't want to announce it now.

They might play this game say a month or two into the season and the pull the " we shut him down for the season as he needs long term rest" or something of the sorts.

I wonder if there is something degenerative to his injury and that is the issue. I don't know.

I'm leaning towards that. Either that or he is in and out of the lineup. Flyers just aren't in a position right now to operate as if he is not going to play. First muscle injury in the history of sports that can't be diagnosed and treated.

That's what makes me feel there is something degenerative that they are exhausting all options possible before he is either completely shut down or something is announced.

It just makes no sense.

They can't though. That pesky salary cap. If they spend his cap money thinking he will LTIR for a full season and he is not out for the full season that creates a major issue.

Just saying he is officially done, does his contract become more beneficial then as a trade chip to a team needing to use LTIR?

It's their job to figure it out. It's clear right now that at a minimum the first month of the season he'll be out.

Which means they cannot do much. If they offseason LTIR him I believe they have more options. However an in-season LTIR allows the Flyers to exceed the cap but that all goes away when the player returns.

With the Cap rumored to be going up significantly in the next year or two and Ellis still having 5 year of term left. I don't think a team at this point would be willing to take the contract. If it was a just a couple of years than that would be more viable.

I am sure the TML and TBL's of the world take him if he is officially done like Seabrook or Weber. I do not think Ellis is at that stage though.

It's been described as his entire core. If it was a vertebrae issue. I believe we would have better information and a more specific treatment plan would be in place. I guess it could also involve tendons or ligaments then I would think the same thing. If you think differently? I would be interested in what you have to say.

Chuck is one of the few who talks to the doctors and knows all the details. If Ellis were anywhere close to being done for the year, Chuck would have spent all the money already.

There's gotta be a decent chance he's gonna be back sooner than later. And by back, probably 2-games before he reinjures and we do this all again.

Yep. The fact that the Flyers didn't operate in that manner. Tells us that they still don't know yet.

Can any of Deangelo Braun or Risto play the left side?
