The NHL only made it thru Covid bc the players "loaned" the owners money (aka they only took a portion of their salaries).
The owners still haven't finished paying that back (why we have a flat cap).
Unless the NHLPA plans on agreeing to across the board salary cuts, there's no way most teams can survive missing a chunk of gate revenues. - Tomahawk
I thought it was the other way around. The players wanted to play during covid, so the owners still had to pay salaries with little to know revenue, and it was the players who are paying back the owners. And because of this is why the cap didn't go up that much this year.

There is also more. Teams like having those national televised games. Winter Classics, Hosting the draft, Hosting all-star games.
With the way the Flyers are right now why would the NHL give them any of those. You reputation starts to get hit and you become a joke. When your a major market and have football, baseball and basket ball in your city you don't want to become the joke team. The Sixers are contenders. The Eagles won a super bowl. The Phillies i guess are trying to compete but they are little more exciting then years past.
The Flyers? They are a joke in there city. You were already the 4th team in the city and now your probably behind the Union in regards to your standing with the city and fans. |

The revenues dropped, which in turn would have dropped the 50% the players are entitled too by way of the salary cap #, the owners agreed to prop up the cap # and make it that the players didn’t have to lose most of their cash in escro payments. Something the players obviously hate ….When that’s paid back, which apparently is going better then anticipated as league revenues had a great year, then the cap will again start to rise….I read the other day the the league cap and minimum could increase by as much as 12 million for the 24-25 season if revenues continue on the current path….although that forecast didn’t mention the incoming recession which may also have an impact on the overall numbers. |

Players agreed to defer 10% salaries and the owners would pay them back when everything was back to normal. Escrow also got bumped up to 20%. So they effectively played the Covid seasons with players making 70%. That's the only way they could afford to still put on the season.
They're still paying that 10% back.

As for who was pushing to keep the seasons from being canceled, probably segments of both camps. Players and owners who didn't have enough cushion to forgo the season. |

Philadelphia is a very good hockey market. It will have to be to overcome the current ownership/management group. It’s such a shame that a corporation can’t see the forest for the trees and appear to be running this once proud, money making market into the ground through ineptness and incompetence. |

The Owners aren't paying them back. The players are paying the owners back with escrow. Revenue went flat with the players still being paid so that skewed the 50%. The players have keep paying escrow until the owners are paid back and the revenue split is even.

They think they know how cap works. They know poop. Funny thing is a few years ago philly started season with less players than full roster to be cap complient. You don’t have to have 22 man roster.
Pit could easily carry 20 or 21 until they figure out what to do or any team for that matter. Then thinking you have to have some path to be complient in July using ltir as examples is totally retarded and false. All that matters is day 1 regular season. Actually even funnier is teams make rosters moves right up til last second with waivers placements back to jrs ahl all types of decisions last second. No path needed to prevent a team from using 10% allowance in off season. Cap experts like mjl should know this. But when caught and proven wrong will spin spin spin as always - Stayin alive

Ah I understand now. Thanks.
A bit confusing with both sides spreading the Covid hit across escrow and deferred payments.

Yes, the Flyers are epically bad right now because of their incompetent GM and the one before him, but the Silles and Sixers have frontrunning fans that only show up if they are winning, and soccer will always be a niche sport in this city. No one cares about them outside of the 18,000 zealots that attend their games. The Flyers are fine if they can get past the current shiit show! Thanks! |

He's insinuating that others don't know that you don't have to start with a full roster. Each reply he changes the context with the intent to try and show that he knows more than others, with mistakes of course. I'm finding it extremely entertaining. |

“You’d have to move multiple contracts to be able to do that,” Fletcher said. “You have to have a team (willing to take them). In some cases, contracts are extremely hard to move.”
Let me guess ones that are hard to move: ridiculous term and/or money to mediocre or injury prone players. How do you get in cap jail? Hayes, Ellis, Risto, JVR (whose day is finally coming), Provorov, TK, Farabee (hopefully his injury doesn’t linger because he looks like a solid player), Coots (we need him to be healthy more than anyone).
How else do you get in cap jail? Long terms and high dollars to good but not star players, and long terms and high dollars to young players you expect to get better and don’t. Buy high sell low.
It all comes down to drafting well, developing players, and making smart moves with your roster. This organization might be the worst in the league at those three things. Sometimes you need to sell high to get a more needed piece…this is known as a hockey trade, something this organization can rarely do.
Why does Lappy still have his current job? Too important for someone that has never had any success at the coaching ranks. I love the guy but not inthat role. |

Might be 2030 for all I know. That's why I said I have zero confidence. I was just stating that the Flyers can easily zoom right past the Sillies and Sixers again in popularity, and to suggest that the Union are more popular is just a crack up. Soccer is a niche sport in this city at best and it always will be. |

Really I made you answer it. It's not realistic that the entire regime is removed. Which is why the previous poster doesn't have to and shouldn't stop.
