If the Flyers had an analytics department they wouldn't be in this mess ... - Flyers_01
Didn't they just make a huge investment in that department?

It's good to see Sami Kapanen at the development camp. https://twitter.com/i/broadcasts/1eaJbNNWmwZJX - RustyPipes
Tuomaala should be eligible to come over to the AHL in January as he will turn 20 on Jan 3rd.
At least that is SOMETHING to be interested in if it happens.

They have one of the three largest departments in the league and dump as much cash as anyone into analytics. They also have access to some of the best and brightest analytics minds in the world under the Comcast NBC umbrella.
There is almost no other team more dedicated to analytics in the entire league. Just cause they love Risto does not mean they ignore analytics. Kinda hate to burst your bubble, but the analytics complaint about the flyers has not been relevant in a long time. |

I mean… if the point was to get out of Canada and still get paid - and Flyers were off the table - I’d take living in an Ohio suburb over North Jersey all day and twice on Sundays
Only a few hours from home without having the entire city of Philadelphia hate him for going to the Devils - anti-lame
Gets his retirement contract in a low level NHL city with zero pressure. Can walk about town with no one bothering him. Live a somewhat normal life. Plus they have a a white castle.

The greatest frustration is the lack of direction by the front office, unless the direction is flop, fail, lie, keep assuming people will pay good money to attend… then that’s just insulting. |

Except congrats to Claude and Oskar who have successfully gotten off the doom train. - iamscore2day
I thought about this - and perhaps Chuck knew the road this team was headed down and spared him out of respect.
But is it true we could have actually traded him and gotten something? And we didn’t? That’s the bigger failure imo |

Just another familiar face they use to buy points with fans since the results are never there.
The fact we even have Euro scouts while Chuck “I am a Real American” Fletcher is running things is kind of hilarious. |

I agree and he was the rarest of all Flyers players: one with real speed. |

Hindsight is 20/20 and all but I’m just thinking how we could have used those picks we traded for DeAngelo to move up to 3, take Wright and still have the money to be in the Gaudreau conversation regardless of a JVR trade with the Lindblom buyout/money not thrown at DeAngelo.
Possibly
Wright
Gaudreau
Instead
Reach on Cutter over Jiricek
DeAngelo
Deslauriers

Ya see, that is exactly the type of thinking that a proper GM should have. |

What makes anyone think that Briere is ready to be an NHL GM? Personally, he can leave along with the rest of the crew. - MJL
Haha who said he was ready or that would be the right move. He has finished fairly high in a few GM searches like Montreal.
My gut tells me he gets a job somewhere else. He succeeds and then we all bytch…

Excellent point - the live draft boards were alluding to that when it was happening in real-time. |

What moves do you think were made with the blessings of anyone with an analytical background in the last year?
There has been no one defending Fletch's moves on an analytical basis, no one.
The only thing to come out of the analytical dept so far was that giving up a 2nd in 2024, 3rd in 2023, 4th in 2022 only really amounted to a 2nd.
The analytical dept of the Flyers might as well be renamed Monty Python's Flying Circus because there is nothing logical or analytical in the results.

Why did they give all those picks?
Werent teams granted permission to talk to Tony? Surely they could have found out if other teams were interested? Maybe several teams were which caused them to have to pay that? I would think not but i cant think of why they wouldnt just offer Carolina a 4th and walk away if not

Where are you getting this information from? Name one of the best and brightest hockey analytic minds that under the Comcast umbrella?
Having more people does not automatically make an analytics department better.
Your statement that there is almost no other team more dedicated to analytics is complete nonsense. There are many team who have been using proprietary analytics successfully in the NHL for two decades including winning Stanley Cups such as the Chicago Blackhawks.
You are completely uninformed on this subject. The Flyers are in the rear and playing catch up to most of the league when it comes to analytics. |
