When you're a team in LTIR, you're not in position to take on cap dumps. - MJL
Not even one year cap hits where the player has some value at the trade deadline?
At this time, with this team, cap space for 22-23 is irrelevant as long as we're compliant by using LTIR, while cap space for 23-24 forward is relevant. |

It's telling that Fletch is scared to trade the 2023 1st-rounder. He KNOWS it's going to be a lotto pick. And there's nothing he can do to stop that. |

Ristolainen+Deslauriers are on more money than Giroux.
DeAngelo+Ristolainen are on more money than Gaudreau.
@NHLFlyers capped out, going into season where have arguably only ONE healthy player who is top ~20 in the entire #NHL in his position. And he is coming off injury.

comparing how much 2 d make to a forward is a bad comparison. Though I get it

the Flyers new power play coach?

His name's Rocky. I'm pumped! - Dkos
Look him up - it actually looks like a decent get for Torts. Sounds like he’s got a decent offensive brain while having some experience. I can’t say I hate this move.. am I aloud to say that here? |

I don’t really see the relevance of the comparisons.
Also I get letting Lindholm walk. No issue w it. Ina vacuum it makes sense, but man the perception looks like shyt with the simultaneous - ridiculous contract givin to goonpking guy. Fletcher has 0 pr skills and it showed. |

CF said they’re done in free agency. Apparently didn’t say done with roster changes. My worry is the trades he could make. The team is bad. We know and they know it. He is going to make a move to make it more “competitive”. That worries the (frank) out of me. - Deasr1
They are trying to go full Charlestown Chiefs

We'll get the company spin. "There were multiple teams bidding on the player. We had to go the 4 years". He actually said that players like Deslauriers are hard to find. Why would anyone want someone as clueless as he is running their hockey team. It's an indictment on the entire organization. - MJL

And so does everyone else apparently, hence them all saying we don't want Florida's, we want yours.
He was probably telling Dave Scott, "Dave, I just don't get why they want our pick instead of Florida's!"

I have a theory on torts signing. I am of the belief that no credible coach could possibly look at flyers team and direction (other than total rebuild) and think to themselves yeah this is doable or a good situation…
Torts is on record saying this is his last coaching gig….
No way is torts taking this job with some delusion that he can turn it around. Not with the dysfunction above him….
My theory/question… is torts just using this gig as retirement package? He GOTTA know he’s lucky to make it a year. Either he’s fired by some new gm or goes off the rails after losing his poop. But team will be paying him for 4 years.
I mean maybe not solely his purpose but he’s had to look at whole picture and be like (frank) it easy money right? - Stayin alive
Maybe check with your wife's friend. I mean, she was so dead on balls accurate on JG being a "done deal."

Bill,
What is the road out of this? I can't remember things looking so bleak ever... - rmedaska
I agree. I can’t remember things ever being this bad since maybe the pre lindros era.
It’s an absolute mess and I have no idea how the hell they expect to sell this to the fans. I expect a half empty rink all year and a bottom five league finish. There’s no plan and no path to a plan. |

Some fans couldn't understand how Vegas can move a player with one year left and the Flyers couldn't. First of all there is the obvious that Pacioretty is a ton better than JVR. Secondly, there is mutual benefit there. Vegas needs to clear cap and Carolina needed another scoring forward that fits into their cap strategy. With the Flyers, they were the only one needing something. The price is high to bail them out.

Worst case scenario: I’ve got a feeling they’re going to trade for Kane to try and save face from this mess. Chicago will gladly take a year of JVR to unload Kane.
We get better
Chicago gets worse
There go our hopes of picking top 3. |

I have no problem with the Flyers not going after JG or any high priced free agent. As I mentioned the goal of this upcoming season should be to evaluate the current crop of younger players on the team and continue their development. This should also lead to picking high again in a deep 2023 draft. This is a good plan IMO.
But I am not confident that was the plan coming into this off-season, instead I believe this is how it ended up due to poor execution on Fletcher's part. First, the mere fact that Lindblom was immediately signed by San Jose tells me there was a market for him, and thus I feel Fletcher did not read that market properly. Likewise the fact that JG turned down Calgary's good contract offer and wanted to play for the Flyers should have been known by Fletcher so he could have prepared for it by having the cap space available. Instead he resigns Risto to a higher than needed AVV, and then trades what remaining cap space he has on DeAngelo, which is a very good defenseman but if you knew about JG you probably would not have traded for him. Then Fletcher gains back some cap space by buying out Lindblom and then spends that space on more bad players, meaning he has no space right now to extend Frost, Tippet and any other RFAs. This means Fletcher needs to make another move to clear more space just to do that!
It really comes across like there was no real plan here, and that has to be concerning to everyone. I have defended Fletcher and I am trying to be positive, but honestly I don't see a plan here and thus its hard to be positive! - jd250
