EK reporting Burns to the Senators is a possibility.

Good grief.

How good is Marino? His numbers seem pretty meh. Is he a legit top 4?
- punchanello77

I asked somone who watches more hockey, and they responded "meh".

That's not neccessarily a bad thing.

Certianly not as good as some of the other names mentioned, so he'd cost a lot less, and he's signed at a resonable contract for five more years.

Right? I mean I know he makes up random stuff for click bait but he could at least put some effort into it.

I would severely miss Brown/Formenton on the PK. They destroyed other teams PP... just wish they would score more on the breakaway!!!!

I hope Gustavsson does well, but at the same time, if he turns into another Bishop, I will be pissed, lol.

Things are looking nice so far; here's to more happy news tomorrow!

- PogBoi

Amen. It felt like Formenton averaged a breakaway per period. But could barely score. Same with Brown. I’ve been saying for years, if Connor only had a better shot, he’d hit 20gs pretty consistently.

There has been discussions. His actual money remaining is about 3 X 5. Could Zaitsev be shipped the other way? There could be a deal there. I’m just not sure Burns would waive.

Burns wants to win now. He would not waive to come to Ottawa.

It takes time to build a Cup winner. The following two teams showed patience, slowly went about building a well rounded team, and were eventually rewarded.

NIKITA KUCHEROV DRAFT YEAR:2011
BRAYDEN POINT DRAFT YEAR:2014
STEVEN STAMKOS DRAFT YEAR:2008
ANTHONY CIRELLI DRAFT YEAR:2015
VICTOR HEDMAN DRAFT YEAR:2009
ANDREI VASILEVSKIY DRAFT YEAR:2012

MIKKO RANTANEN DRAFT YEAR:2015
GABRIEL LANDESKOG DRAFT YEAR:2011
NATHAN MacKINNON DRAFT YEAR:2013
CALE MAKAR DRAFT YEAR:2017

The following two teams decided that they were tired of waiting (how many years had Edmonton gone missing the playoffs?) and chose to accelerate the process. As a result neither one has a snowball's chance in hell of winning a Cup for the forseeable future.

CONNOR McDAVID DRAFT YEAR:2015
LEON DRAISAITL DRAFT YEAR:2014
DARNELL NURSE DRAFT YEAR:2013
TAYLOR HALL DRAFT YEAR:2010
I include Taylor Hall here because he was part of the core but got shipped out as part of the acceleration process for Adam Larsson who was going to be the D man they needed to make it happen. Sound familiar?

Toronto decided they didn't need a bottom six.

AUSTON MATTHEWS DRAFT YEAR:2016
MITCHELL MARNER DRAFT YEAR:2015
WILLIAM NYLANDER DRAFT YEAR:2014
MORGAN RIELLY DRAFT YEAR:2012

These next guys missed the playoffs for 5 years but had a really good thing going. Great core, great leadership, great support guys like Paul and Brown and Formenton and the coming of a bottom six that would be awesome with the advent of guys like Pinto and Greig, team chemistry second to none, high end D prospects just about ready to cement a solid all round D with Chabot as anchor, lots of size and speed and skill, zero cap issues. They were just not ready yet and were too thin but were on the cusp of greatness. Then they decided that they didn't want to wait any longer. We'll see how that works out.

BRADY TKACHUK DRAFT YEAR:2018
DRAKE BATHERSON DRAFT YEAR:2017
TIM STÜTZLE DRAFT YEAR:2020

Ottawa is not in win the cup now mode like the Oilers or Leafs. They are simply getting better. I think it would be useful to look at the moves Tampa and Colorado made during the 5 years after their pieces we set. Are the Avs / Bolts time lines not pretty much lining up with Ottawa?

None of this explains why it would be bad for Ottawa to go out and get a good defenseman or why the Debrincat was a bad get (Brayden Point is 5'10" btw so the "midget" factor is moot as far as I'm concerned.) Let's say it is Chychrun they get and then they sign Giroux for 3-4 years. That is 3-4 years for Lassi Thompson and Sanderson to hopefully become epic and Stutzle to be mentored by Giroux. If they happen to compete and get in the playoffs during this time awesome, if they can contend, even better. But to bottom out yet again is simply not necessary which seems to be the argument you are making constantly as you seem to just be upset Dorion is attempting to add talent.

Brannstrom is no more than 5/6 defensemen and it would depend on the prospect. As for Formenton, I truly feel all the talk about possibly being moved has to do with the WJ issue that is being investigated.

I have to presume innoccent for now. But all those players are going to get named publicly and there will be backlash for the teams of those scumbags.

She is lieing to get money, which she did, no police report was filed , she did not cooperate with investigations.

The person bringing the allegations forward chose not to speak with either police or with Hockey Canada’s independent investigator and also chose not to identify the players involved. This was her right, and we fully respect her wishes. We have settled this matter and as part of that settlement, we will not be commenting further.”

It seems to be so easy to make a bundle in today's world. Allegations are all you need but it's a good idea to wait a few years so you don't need to present any evidence. The self appointed witch hunters out there will do the rest making sure others like you always get paid in the future.

Those witch hunters particularly love the idea of destroying some kid's career based on unsupported allegations. Makes them feel holy and let's others know how pure they are.

Wow, what a ignorant comment.

These players like it or not are going to be named. As the investigation continues, and it wont go away no matter how much money they threw at it. You cant have gang rapists being heralded as sports stars

This is a quality deal. Not too much on the money or term. Absolute home run. He should be a great mentor for the young kids while still providing offensive punch.

Truth is everyone who speaks on this topic is ignorant as the lady who brought this forward waited several years to do so and would not cooperate with investigators. Whether this is "common" or not does not make it the correct choice when trying to find truth and justice.

If this did happen as described by her lawyer I hope Batherson was not involved but given what I've heard people discuss it doesn't look good...

Clearly I like this move a lot... given that I've been writing in support of the idea for a couple of months now. That's also pretty much the exact sweet spot between $$$ and term. It will be such a huge boost to Stutzle having this kind of faceoff support, and veteran offensive support. It's also just a major boost to the team's PR to not only have made one of the biggest splash moves at the draft, but also sign one of the biggest UFA forwards available.

Tkachuk-Norris-Batherson
DeBrincat-Stutzle-Giroux

Neither line will be as productive as the old pizza line, but it's quite possibly the best all-round top-6 they've ever had.

The top 6 is now really solid. Not sure how anyone can knock it. Maybe lack of a true super star in their prime but there is still time growth for guys like Stu. Really great week for the franchise.

Love the Giroux deal.

You get him at 3, you get him under 7. Hopefully there’s no “no trade clause” or some sort attached..

My goodness PD looking like Yzerman on these moves!

I feel the forward group is now set (assuming Norris gets signed by camp). Goaltending is set. Now the defense needs to be addressed. Will be interesting to see what goes down.
