Savoie has played zero (frank)ing games.

Debrincat is a multi time 40 goal scorer.

Asplund
Mitts
Olofsson

To make room for cat and burkowski

- Boss34

Asplud and Mitts for Cat all day.

Ottawa traded 7 away for him...it's safe to assume Buffalo would have had to include 9
- Stripes77

Sabres had picks and players they could have thrown at Chicago.

You don't know that so stop saying it would have cost Savoie.
- Buff36

Quinn instead?

Is that ok to mention out loud?

They made the playoffs first... then adjusted for what they needed to get further.

FOR EVERYONE COMPLAINING.

https://www.hockeydb.com/...ons/teams/0006902018.html

here is the first year Colorado made the poffs after rebuilding. Bounced first round.

They then lost 3 times in the second round.

https://www.hockeydb.com/...ons/teams/0006902022.html

Here is their team from the past cup run.

Not even frankin close.

Make the playoffs then adjust.

We aren't in cup contention for the next 2 - 3 years even if we did sign any of these players.
The fastest way to getting yourself into (and staying!) in contention is through rolling your own. We are all set up for this, at least as much as anyone can be.

If you want to criticize them for not spending more money, fine. I don't agree with bringing in some of these vets but I could see how they could taken on another bad contract or two. Then again, they were linked to JVR and he fits that description.

Do you really think we’re just gonna go from bottom 10 to cup contender at one time?

Development isn’t linear. Have we not learned this?

PHam reported that Chicago was going to take 16 for Cat if Ottawa made that trade.

Even so, that's not the point. The point is that Debrincat doesn't have term and will make north of 9 mill a year if he does sign there. That's why his value was so low to other teams that apparently aren't trying. Again, they don't already have a 9 million dollar winger on their roster.

or
16 and 28

- ImThatGuy

So Tim Murray it by trading away multiple first round picks? This time on just one player instead of two?

what players did Ottawa turn away?

Buffalo had two first round picks that would have not even put a dent in the prospect pool.

One of those picks was a complete reach according to most.

Wouldn't really call any of them prospects anymore, and Mitts and Olofsson can say bye bye.

You lost me. It takes time, of course. I've waited this long - I might as well wait a little longer.

What also gets missed here is that it is freaking fun to watch the kids play. I had a blast at the end of last season and that was without Quinn, Paterka and full Power. I am not missing anything by not having a Strome playing on the third line.

You don't need to convince me, I wouldn't have made that trade based on his contract status versus where the Sabres are today.

Now say next year they're developing nicely and figured out who is staying and going, then I would be more willing to make that trade.

We are a year or two behind Ottawa and Detroit in their rebuilds.

You giving up Savoie for a year and a half of Cat?

I'm not. Thank God KA didn't.

- Powerslave

DeBrincat would’ve been great
And if we knew we could see GM him, then giving up those picks would’ve been worth it

But he’s probably gonna go to Free Agency if Ottawa doesn’t become a contender
And they probably need more time

Considering they’re ahead of us by a few years in their rebuild, we likely wouldn’t have had enough time to convince him to stay here either
