They also didn't have to trade away any picks to make it happen

How did they get to the win now mode?

They drafted and developed

The have one of if not the best goalies in the world, and one of the defensemen in the world

Then there is former #1 overall Stamkos, add in Point, Kuch, Cirelli all players that are studs which they drafted and developed

- Stripes77
Yeah, my point is they didnt worry about the cap, they made it work as issues arouse.

Too careless, sorry. Lemieux in LA is 1x$1.35

Are you trying to compare a team that made the Stanley cup three years in a row to a bottom 10 team?? Their deals and contracts aren’t comparable to us. This post is nonsense.

The cap is very real, teams lose good players all the time because of it. Sure you can “make it work” when you have a top 5 player in the league, another top 20 forward, a top 3 D and a top 3 goalie.

Eventually when everyone gets paid, which they are now, it will harder to harder to win. They won’t have their value contracts anymore and will have to trade off some pieces

- Fattony1187

You're right, I am absolutely comparing them because that is the model that we are following. You can't now shift the goalposts by saying "well they could afford to be responsible because they drafted well". They are responsible because they are responsible on days like today. You know who else was? Colorado. They also had a decade of suck.

As great it is to see. I rather see Johnny Gaudreau signing in Philly, with JVR and FLAs 1st going to buffalo for the worst of our 2nd round picks next year.

I just like seeing a team less competent than ours

I think the Flyers are saving themselves from themselves here

With not giving up a 1st to move JVR then signing Johnny, they would stay in mediocrity

They already have several bad contracts

I agree with you. My point was we aren’t at that time frame yet to do the spending. We are in the draft in development stage. Some people think you can go hog wild now, not realizing it hurts you in the future. We did that with the last core (molson, Okposo, skinner) and it crushed us.

Me neither

I absolutely want JVR and a 1st here

Then flip JVR at the deadline for a 2nd a prospect

Give me a 1st, 2nd, and a prospect for taking on a bad contract for a year

It is an extremely smart move and should do that.

In two years that 1st and 2nd could buy us a Fiala or Cat when we want to win at the price of a temp cap dump now while we have the room

I honestly like what Buffalo did today.

Comrie didn’t get to play much, but when he did he performed well. He’s a worthy gamble.

And Lybushkin is a stay at home guy that can slot in on either pairs 2 or 3. He doesn’t do much offensively but will take care of business defensively. Whether he’s paired with Power or Bryson it should pay dividends regardless

I like both signings. Lybushkin should be 3rd pair though. IMO, they are still missing that top 4 RHD.

I think there’s a giant middle ground from doing the absolute bare minimum to going hog wild

The Flyers not being able to get Johnny Gaudreau because they are paying Rasmus Ristolainen and Tony DeAngelo $10 million and will not throw in a sweetener to get rid of JvR is a lot of decisions.

Bad decisions

But definitely decisions.

It absolutely does. But what makes them different is that they are never chasing. They are always ahead of everything. They aren't panicking on days like today when other teams are trying to catch them. They put themselves in this situation by being smart in everything they do.

Isn’t that what they have done today ? Vinny prohibits them from handing a spot to JJ/Quinn.

Comrie and Anderson can split starts, I 100% guarantee that Edmonton and Washington are going to regret giving term to Campbell and Kuemper term in a league where goalies are voodoo.

Got a RHD that provides toughness and that can defend well to let their puck mobile d-man go wild.

Proving why nothing is done until it's done on this day, and I said earlier it wasn't done yet, hearing that another team has come in late on talks with Mason Marchment's camp and Carolina no longer assured of getting him. Stay tuned.

I like the player but his contract isn't going to be very high after a one year break out year
