I think he would've gotten 3.75-4.25 in arb, so a couple hundred k extra to buy that extra year, making him more valuable to another team at the deadline (i.e not just a rental).

Isn't a big part of the point of the Sabres investing heavily in analytics that they're going to be making data driven decisions?
