Some decent options in the budget pile. Aside from Strome... Sonny Milano would perhaps be a good add. Danton Heinen...🤔
- joel878

Pissed me off to no end Verbeek didn’t qualify Milano… and Danton was always good for us and priced himself out of the burg…his underlying # were always solid.

I can see Milano being a bit of a steal with JT and Willie, with the kicker of being able to move him down and add an offensive threat to the bottom six at times.

Heinen checks a lot of the boxes we need on the peripherals front me thinks.

Athletic article ranking every teams cap situation before free agency. I know it doesn't jive with the Dubas has this team in cap hell worst situation in the league we're so (frank)ed mentality... But Leafs at #23. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Sonny would be nice…he can finish and has wheels.

Danton is just one of those guys who is always making the correct play… invisible and deadly.

Especially since Samsonov wasn't qualified.

Were I Samsonov, I'd sign with the Leafs knowing there's a good chance he'll still end up the starter here.

And if not, at the very least the thing Dubas has shown so far is that he'll accommodate players and trade them out if they want out.

- GreatGigInTheSky

This is not a bad idea. Relying on Kallgren/Woll as backups runs the risk of revisiting Garret Sparks. Samsonov has a solid pedigree, if unspectacular numbers to date. At least he's got some experience. 1*1M on this team could be a good career move and if he falters, drop him on waivers, sure to get scooped.

Not to be Debbie downer … but that has more to do with plenty of moronic GMs than Dubies acumen … me thinks …

Ottawa can offer a lot more then the leafs if they want to. An offer that starts with Sanderson, one of their young roster players and their 1st rounder for example doesn't even scratch the surface of what they could do.
- joel878

Nah. I've got it on good authority that spare parts and Zaitsev is a good deal for them.

If the Leafs even wanted to be in the discussion it's Bill Ny, a 1st, and top prospect.

Leafs can't compete with Zaitsev.

If you don't think he has done better then go find a new team to watch.

Not that is has been overly difficult to do a better job but its obvious to anyone that the Leafs are doing much better and making much better decisions compared to the last decade and a bit before that.

There is a segment of Leaf fans that have such low expectations.

There is 4 players on the team still from 2018 when he took over.

He kept 4 players over that time, he has to get some credit for the makeup of the 115 point team

- senstroll

OK cool,

I will give him all the credit you want, so long as you acknowledge that he has utterly failed in pretty much every way, cap-strapped, no series wins, very questionable goaltending, numerous picks traded away including most 1st rounders...

I can see where people can find themselves there, but I'm not going to write off next season before it starts because why. Just black out for 82 games just to be able to say I told you so? May as well develop an interest in competitive lawn bowling at that point.

The leafs have some really good prospects and a good team on the ice. After 55 years of liquid poop I can find a silver lining in that.

- joel878

I have no problem acknowledging any of that. If the ultimate goal is the presidents trophy they are on the right track. As far as winning anything anyone gives a poop about they have not taken even one step forward and along they way they have managed be in perpetual cap hell and traded away most of the future to achieve this failure.

Good that they have a goalie that actually wins playoff games, if you’re into that kind of thing
