My overall take on the trade is lukewarm at best. I was really hoping if this was a thing it had a 3rd team involved or at least 50% retained by ottawa.

I do think the future considerations, being something like a 6th round pick not mattering which is good.

The frightening part isn't even the price of the trade, it's another summer of more questions marks compared to some other goalies on the free agent market.

Murray does have upside similar to other goalies so that's a positive. It really depends. I'm hoping he's happy to be on a likely competitive team and shows up. I hope he's healthy and stays healthy.

If I try to be objective here there's a couple points. There's not really anyone on the free agent market who has a better history than Murray outside Keumper and I wouldn't be shocked to see him get over 6 million a year.
On the trade market, who else was there legitimately? Gibson has reports of not wanting to play in Toronto, Varlamov plays for Lou and there's nothing suggesting Lou wants to work with Dubas.
Husso went to the Red Wings already. Vanacek to NJ.

I'm really hoping Campbell gets 6 million somewhere and this looks a bit better.

Lastly, I've speculated that Dubas and Co can spend about 6 million on their tandem so I expect a back up for about a million in free agency. I can't see them spending more than that.

Who says he's not coming here as well? He's a free agent.

Truly sorry if you were offended. I fully understand how frustrating such a trade but be but for having followed the Sens a lot last year, Murray had great stretches last year. Wayyy better than Mrazek. The rest depends on who will be the other 1B, and luck.
- Not_Yan

No worries Yan. We've always been cool. I just dislike Karine, always have. I've always found her a little bit too "fan-ish" and not enough impartiality. Then again we have the most milquetoast blogger in the history of the site. Not sure that is much better.

I dunno, maybe he bounces back. Right now it looks like we gave away 1 million in cap and dropped 13 spots for a 3rd, and a Mrazek to Murray upgrade. Can't say it seems like good moves.

So Leafs gotta pay Nylander plus 1st and more but Ottawa can give spare parts and CAP dumps for Chychrun?
- GreatGigInTheSky

Nylander plus 1st is a good start. But, Yotes want 4 first round equivalents as part of the deal. Connor Brown is only interesting to the Yotes if they think they can flip him for a first at the trade deadline.

Yeah, I here ya, Leafs blogs consist of mostly copying and pasting. Mike seems alright, but you should at least have another more independently minded blogger with original content.
- The Judge

When we had another blogger, who was also a "fan-boi", MiB would constantly put up a new blog right after him.

Tough to have a great deal of respect for that or any of the cut and paste he does of stuff we have all read already anyway.

Murray is fine. Vasilevsky didn't win the cup, Kuemper did. Two thirds of the league have mediocre goaltending. It's the eighties again, poopty goaltending and everyone gets 50 goals.

Terrible news boys - I’m sorry. I hate Ottawa. Good trade for them though.

Ottawa sheds 75% of the cash (their Mrazek)

Leafs may have to play Murray in a hockey game

Fingers crossed for a better tender coming in or around Wednesday. Believe man! Keep the faith. Summers not over.

Hearing Rickard Rakell and #pens have agreed to terms on an extension in the neighborhood of 5 years x $5 million.

That takes another talented winger off the market.

Anyone else rather have taken a shot at Samsonov.

Dubas seems like one of those guys who is smart, but ends up out-smarting himself a little too often.

- Aetherial

Don't think he's made a "good" goalie decision yet.

True.

It is not like there were any Vasilevskiy's available either.

That's kind of pricey.

However, Penguins have 9 million in cap space to sign at least 2 forwards.

You know though man - sometimes the stars align right. There are goalies that have good years and bad or good few years then bad then a couple good, and so on.

If the Buds can kick out and Murray has a Penguins calibre (not that late season where injury and crease competition rattled him) season they have a real good tender for 4.7! Like I said fingers crossed for rest of summer amd ya never know.
I remember Gilmour Tucker and Mats all made comments during their time on Toronto where they mentioned how sometimes being a place like Toronto can elevate your play and you punch above your weight class. Who’s to say that doesn’t happen with this Ontario boy eh.
