I want no part of Strome coming back
- TPC

I agree, was just a thought. I’d probably make D Strome the 2C, it would be more bc of how important Ryan is in the locker room and how much Panarin likes playing with him.

I'm giving him a pass because of the injury. He was playing hurt before the playoffs started. Not saying we beat Tampa with a healthy Strome, but it might have helped.

Does D Strome, besides being able to be had from Chi, move the NYR needle though? Not really
- rrentz

Strome alone isnt the answer however with Kane it definitely moves the needle significantly.

Of course he makes this team better, but it's also a hole that doesn't exist/need to be filled really. We need a center which he would prevent from happening since we have no cap space and i think you underestimate what he'll likely command on his next contract despite his age, so in reality it's probably a 1 year rental and is that really worth it pending what we have to give up?

It sure as hell would be entertaining to watch, but it just create more holes depending what would go the other way/not allow us to address our actual needs, which might just make it a wash vs a positive.

- Mtlca66

Im just curious, how is RW not a hole for us?

Kakko hasnt proven anything.
Vatrano who is gone, was a 3rd liner playing on the 1st.
Copp isnt a RW, but he has high hockey IQ so he managed. Hes likely gone too.
Who knows where Kravtsov’s head is at?
Blais is a bottom 6 guy.

I think when it’s Kane that’s available you get him, figure out a center later. I’m fine with plug in guys for now. He’s a difference maker. The timing may be right is the other thing. I get the anti Kane sentiment tho, it’s a very bold move

There are plenty of 3C options they could get and afford them. They need to wait on the big fish center until after Chytils year next year. Because maybe he’s the 2C right under our noses

- Slimtj100

No you dont just figure it out later, the Rangers have done that already when you look at all the buyouts we are stuck with. Whatever assets you are prepared to give up for Kane, you use those assets to trade for a 2c center.

Heres how I could see the lineup:

Kreider, Zib, LAF (although I still firmly believe Kreider should be on the 3rd line at even strength)
Panarin, D.Strome, Kane
Cuylle/Othmann, Chytil, Kravtsov
Goodrow, Eakin, Blais

What 2C can we get that we can sign beyond this year which wont crush us cap wise next year?

I’m all for getting a center, but one that fits himself and Kane in. Which is possible if you would just buy into the damn idea. I just don’t see the rush to add a Dubois for example. One that will cost us more assets than Kane that’s for sure

Patty Kane is made for NYC. And to play at MSG, with Panarin. I truly believe this is the move that puts them over the top and hope they pull the trigger and pull it off. I also believe the return and trade will be much more digestible than people suggest.

The two of them would light up this city together. We haven’t had that sorta thing in a long time. The crowds will be insane inside MSG and the playoff atmosphere? Omg that would be epic and loud. Players have stated how much that helps and pumps them up. Kane still has it. He hasn’t slowed down so the age isn’t a factor yet. Some guys can just play longer than others and still produce. He’ll come here revived and ready to put on a show!

- Slimtj100

100% spot on. Serious question, does anyone believe that if we had kane on our team that we would have lost to tampa in the ECF? Kane is a proven big game player. He has a conn smythe, and is tied for 3rd all time in playoff gwg and playoff OT goals.

I get wanting to keep all the assets but if it means winning then you have to take the shot. Its no guarantee that these shots happen. Especially with the salary cap. Panarin, zibby and kreider are in their primes now

A bunch will disagree but I believe if we added Kane and D. Strome, it would put us in the Stanley Cup finals next year.

This would be very much be like a Messier addition, and that’s why this makes sense because that’s exactly what they need. Bergeron would be the same thing. But he’s staying with the Bs. They need a proven playoff guy to lead on the ice, they basically have everything else in place

No team in the history of the NHL has ever retained over $5 million for an entire season. But for some reason CHI is going to do that for us, and it’s not going to cost us Laf or Othmann, and then Kane is going to be nice enough to leave a whole bunch of money on the table to play for us the next 5 years bc well…..we’re the NYR. Makes complete sense guys. U guys are really onto something

Ok for those of you who are in the Kane corner, which I would be if he costs us just a third rounder, how can any of you justify giving up so many assets, because he will cost so many assets as everyone knows he is that good, for just one year??? We wont be able to fit him under the Cap for the following year and guess what, we will still need a center the following year!!

You guys are operating under the assumption that there is no Cap!!! We still need a backup goalie and another defense man.

Because he is very rich and doesnt want any more money. Plus he wants to turn that snow flake Panarin into a playoff performer.

Ur right, I forgot. His only concern the rest of his career is making sure the NYR win a Stanley cup.

But dont forget the Hawks will be very satisfied with the third rounder we are giving them for trading him and then paying him "only" 5 million dollars to play for us.

With the team I proposed, we would have 20mil in cap space to resign guys in 2023.

Lets say Kane takes 7m for 3y full NMC, that would span the duration of Panarin contract.

You leave yourself with 13m to work on some bridge deals. Its tight but doable.

If the Rangers decide to go the JT Miller route, depending on what it costs them, its also doable to get it under the cap.

I am not against either option.

It’s funny how things get people so upset around here

Take the time to do a cap friendly and see how we can in fact fit Kane in and a 3C. It’s possible

What’s the point of trading reaves and buying out nemeth if your plan doesn’t include adding any extra to our cap
- picklerick

That’s the idea really. Only have about 10m left now. Signing the players mentioned would eat a lot of that cap. This will provide some room to make a mid season trade. Cannot take much more especially if you give termed deals over one year. Need to resign three key young players next offseason.

Dude. They don’t need the cap space. They will be outwardly trying to lose games without saying it, for Bedard. They’ll be 30 million under the cap when they finish their purge

They’re talking about trading Seth Jones too ffs

There is no reason for them to not retain money if it helps their future
