Oh relax a bit B-T-D, there won't be any championships for awhile but eventually some new young kids will burst into flowers and there will be hope again.
Real darkness is the Toronto Maple Leafs and their fans, living without sunshine and facing directly into the blackness of space - permanently. - RickJ
Hahaha, yeah just like Bingo that's gotta suck to be in that good enough to make the playoffs but is my team really good enough to win the Cup. I've got 3 in the bank and looking forward to the Blackhawks youth and development camp in the upcoming years, it beats sitting their watching the Pens on the ice with Jagr and Lemieux in the 90s thinking will i ever see the Blackhawks win the Cup. The rest is gravy for me Rick.
Except for game day, because it's just the way i roll |

What UFA is going to sign up for this mess? Guys no one wanted in the first place? Or they would sign them this summer. - Elbows15
Hahaha, really, hmmm getting paid more money, these guys don't play for as little as they can make.
And I'm accused of being irrational |

Everybody likes Joe Thornton. Probably can still beat Strome in a race. |

He definitely won’t fall on his ass from the breeze of another player skating by.

Asking him to retire is a way to circumvent the cap. You must be related to Bettman!

In reality Keith did the Hawks a favor waving his NMC. Stan needed to trade him to get Jones.

In that case, Keith corn holed the Hawks twice. |

Gus? - Dieselhead
They just drafted the next Gus. And they need forwards. They have enough D-men. |

I don't know why all the frustration on here over the recapture on Duncan Keith's contract. It's not like the team is going to push the cap limit this year. If anything, it helps keep the team above the salary floor should there be more trades this summer. |

Take a look at the UFA list. You just traded 3 of the youngest players on the team to burn it down. Are you going out and signing any FAs to term?
Given the logical answer is no. What FA that has its pick of teams is going to want to sign on to the good ship Hawks at this point?
You can get guys like Thornton(not really cause he cup chasing) or Kessel. |

I have no idea what the plan is? However prior to the draft I posted if it was possible for KD to get two or three firsts this draft then the two they have next season possibly hitting the jackpot with Bedard or Fantilli with a “consolation prize” of Mitchkov. To get into the lottery part of the draft the team has to absolutely suck. So trade off one the best assets, ABD, and potentially piss if Kane who wants out. Far fetched or a good plan?

Assuming the recapture penalty counts toward the cap, Rocky gets $5+M toward the cap by spending $0. - mohel
My earlier point.
Are we not sure he did them a solid by retiring? |

If you can flip them in one years time for more draft picks makes perfect sense to me.
There is no going back now, might as well go full throttle into 1 year contracts that you can flip at the trade deadline, and you can retain half their salary |
|
|
|
Capfriendly doesn't have the Blackhawks retaining any salary so they can over pay 3 FA's to 1 year contracts and flip them at the trade deadline while retaining half their salary. If i was KD i would definitely go this route |
|
|
|
And for those that say who would do that? Please if KD says I'll pay you more money but my intention is to trade you to a playoff team, how many FA's say no especially if they are being offered half of what KD is willing to offer them. |

Like Larry Brooks says - the Hawks are trying to become the Oakland A's of the NHL. |

Then Larry Brooks is a moron because he doesn't understand how the A's and Blackhawks differ
Blackhawks paid their star players
A better comparable to the A's are the Hurricanes
They paid Seth Jones$9.5 per and traded 2 firsts, Canes let Hamilton walk traded DeAngelo, yea he's got no clue |

Would most likely have to retain on Kane and Toews if they want out. |

Every team that doesn't make the playoffs is in the lottery. The Hawks were going to suck either way. Trading Dinky for pennies on the dollar isn't kick starting a rebuild. Its setting it further behind, imo.
Now, even if they get one of the top 3, they have no one to help them develop at the NHL level. Whatever.

Or you know, they can just sign with a playoff team. I guess you value 3rd and 4th much more than I do.
Any player who would be desirable at the TDL is prolly going to want term.
