Looking at the cap, Blackhawks are going to have lots of money to play with in the 23-24 season. |

Many of the posters who would celebrate a Seth Jones trade would be among the 1st here posting about how they ruined Prospects A & B by throwing them in the deep end of the pool before they were ready. - mohel
I am a big fan of letting young players do there time in Jr and the minors most certainly defenseman ,but I do not believe we need a 9.5 mil dollar place holder for the next 8 years either .We can find 2 or 3 veterans to fill that hole for 9.5 mil . I am not against holding onto Jones but we may have to accelerate the rebuild if that's the case. .Picking up some top Jr products in the next 2 years then signing Matthews to a monster contract could put us back in the game . Look out |

And the one thing this kid and the other long term developing dee-man do is get the puck up ice quickly, big strides and lateral movement so they don't get deterred.
Kochinski is a extremely fine passer everywhere.
In Columbus Jones was told to defer and give Brad Werenski the biscuit in transition if he could, and took a backset insofar as power play minutes too.
Korchinski is one of the most outstanding puck movers at his position in the draft.Forget the attributes of the two Czechs, they don't haven't established the level of aspect. He is flashy, but there is zero wasted movement and his timing is almost perfect. You do not break along standing league record for assist w/o talent. What you will see is super active stop & starts in all three zones., due to is low knee bend and
impressive footwork in tight spaces. He has four direction skating ability and and is going to be a big guy when fully filled out. This is the type of attacking mailman they were hoping Boqvist would evolve into. The hawks got the one power play defender they needed, and terrific outlet passer and home rum outlet passer. No more looking for a guy who is big fluid to go with the other big stay at home defenders they have and the attacking Smurfs in the farm. U R going to be surprised. - wiz1901
And does all this with size at 6ft 2in 187lb and as a 17 yr old, he turned 18 in June. Seems the consensus targeted Korchinski as they traded Dcat. Looks like as they watched Makar skate the thing out and up they envisioned Korchinski doing the same thing. He was the player they wanted and targeted ........ Nice toolkit today but room to grow. Kid does not shoot near enough to start with.
Remember now I believe the exemptions cuz of Covid have ended. Korchinski plays Major Junior for 2 more yrs unless he makes the NHL roster due to the CHL-NHL Indentured Servitude Clause. No AHL until he's 20 and out of jrs eligibility. . ......... This is only true for kids drafted outa MJ. Same goes for Ludwinski and Hayes. All other picks this yr can play anywhere they/the organIzation chooses. |

Genuine question (not being a Richard for once)....
How do we know Richardson is a competent NHL coach? - mohel
Fair enough, but given his history playing the game and coaching at various level, including his temp assignment has Montreal’s head coach in the playoffs, I feel confident in Richardson’s abilities. |

Good points, Duffer. I'd sign up for the idea of a couple cheaper placeholders who could be traded at the deadline for something. Who knows, maybe de Haan is back!!

I agree but if Bedard is a generational talent, i can understand him sacrificing players like this. - BetweenTheDots
There’s no guarantee the Hawks get the #1 pick. I’m going into this season, and subsequent draft, hoping the Hawks get a top 3 pick in the 2023 draft. Bedard is the ultimate goal, but there is still some great talent at #2 and #3. |

Hopefully they’re looking for high-character, good “locker-room” UFA’s who are going to buy into Richardson’s system and be able to handle/accept losing seasons like professionals. There are going to be several bad seasons ahead - but in the meantime I’d hope to see a coherent team system on the ice and accountability amongst the players. |

Lazerus is report that (to nobody’s surprise) the Hawks won’t extend a QO to Kubalik.
Keep in mind that just because the Hawks don’t qualify Kubalik and presumably Strome that that won’t be back. By not qualifying these 2 the Hawks can bring them back for less than their QO. However, I think Strome is gone and there’s a very, very, very small chance Kubalik comes back for 1 year. |

The QO for Strome would be $3.6M - not too bad considering his play was better after JC was fired. But, if they want to build a team with speed - that’s not Strome’s strongest attribute. |

Looks like Kaprozov doesn’t have a work visa, and has been denied entry twice to the US and had returned to Russia. Wonder how many other Russian players this could affect? |

The Hawks have to overpay for plugs this year regardless. Even with ADB, and Dach who the hell would want to play on this team on purpose? You sure as hell aren't going to win anything, so what would the other argument be? You might be able to pad your stats if the coach gives you a chance to play with ADB? - Chunk
Two reasons, ice time and opportunity to show they still have game. With good teams under 30 guys like Hudon, Fasching, Dauphin, Athanasuio, Jaskin would see maybe 12:00 on good squads but might see 15:00 and even PP 2 and or PK minutes with the Hawks. .... Have a good yr they may earn a decent contract with term.
Older guys like Beagle or Eakins may have few options and have to sign with a bad club. In both examples guys having good yrs can be moved at the TDL....... Hell if Mrzak gets back to form he may bring a decent return at the TDL. |

I was watching a clip one time and a kid ask Matthews who he liked playing against the most ,his response was the Rangers and Chicago. He said nothing like the excitement of playing in those big cities they are so alive .Then I think he caught himself and realize who he was talking to , and finished with it is a lot of fun playing Ottawa as well . Just kind of hit me he would not mind switching it up when his contract up and who will much more money then the Hawks at that time . Crazier things have happened . |

I read somewhere, an analyst was extremely impressed that he had a significant growth spurt and it took very little time to get back to his shorter height speed, balance and edge work. Extremely athletic player

Yep the bill comes due and with the benefit of hindsight they should've started trying to trade Core players to restock the pond after the 3rd Cup was raised in 2015 from those teams.
Not too many teams in all of sports operate like the Patriots in the NFL and are able to sustain that type of success, but in retrospect I wish the Hawks had used their model. Is what is is and here we are.
I also wasn't on board with trading Dach but for selling low on him I thought they did ok. Nazar looks like he could be a pretty exciting player with skill who competes all over the ice and I like the fact he's headed to U of M which is churning some good NHL prospects these days. - HawkintheD
Yes, they sold Dach at his lowest value since he was drafted but the return was not low at all. Dach for Nazar and a pick was pretty good return and may end up a great trade..... Of course Dach may develop into a 2C and Nazar a bottom 6 guy but I'm ok with that swing because of Nazar's ceiling and his speed/skill style of play.

When they talked about his speed i was worried he might be a bit to light. 5'10 185 pounds is a really nice place to start |

According to LBR his analytics suggest that he could be the next Kruger. - Chunk
I still like Borgstrom's game. If the light switch is flipped he can be a useful 2 way bottom 6 guy. Hoping Slavin gets a long look at bottom 6 minutes. ....... Ideally both fit and develop into their short term, Slavin maybe long term, 3 and 4C's.

Strong kid, plays low and bigger than he is. Elite Prospects showed his attacking the middle in the Ozone was top 2 or 3 in the whole draft. Not at all a perimeter player. ......... Very strong on and over the puck and tough to take him off of it.
Nazar has a real chance to be a difference maker.

I would QO Strome and keep Kane. Hope they both have good starts to their seasons and move them both at the deadline, retaining whatever salary is needed to the maximize return. Even with them both having good starts to their years the Hawks likely would still be a bottom 3 team by year end. |

I wonder if Kane would enforce his NMC this season and then wait to see if the Hawks win the lottery next May. If they won the lottery Kane might stick around in order to play with Bedard. Not a Cup contender for a few years, but he could pile up some points. Not playing in the playoffs could not over tax his 35 year old body. He might have something left in 3 or 4 years.
Worst situation is the Hawks do not win the lottery and get a later pick (but probably still in the top 5) and Kane can resign with Hawks or sign with any team he wants next summer. A no lose situation really.
In the meantime KD could sign a few UFA's this summer that he could trade at the TDL for additional draft capital in the deep 2023 draft. We already have 2 firsts, 2 seconds and 2 thirds next year. Moving Toews might get a another 2nd. Murphy and or McCabe for 3rds. |
