I never understood the wisdom of the Canes having both Tony D and Bear. One makes the other redundant with Tony being better and Bear being cheaper. The Canes paired Slavin with Bear at the beginning of the season and that failed and it worked out better with Tony. Slavin couldn’t carry Bear but he could carry Tony.

Ideally, Tony plays on the 1st PP, 3rd pair D with protected top 4 starts in the ozone. That won’t happen with the Flyers. But it doesn’t matter. They need to try hard for Bedard.

He isn't slow.

I would be happy to see that the reviews are wrong but if you are telling me that a guy with his size has speed and slipped to us at 69, that might be reason to celebrate. I would want to better understand why he played 3rd and 4th line on the USNDTP in that case.

Very deep roster. As Brian Boucher said during today's broadcast: the NTDP recruits with a role already in mind for player and that's where they stay. It hurts some players' offensive opportunities but they also get to play with and against top players their age.

This is wrong on.... pretty much all counts.

Slavin-Bear worked far, far better than Slavin-DeAngelo.

Bear is much more of a slower, two-way guy. DeAngelo is an all-out assault at all times. It's the only way he can play and be effective.

What happened was that Bear got Covid and then never fully recovered, to the point where he said he was still having breathing issues at the end of the season.

Canes were 40-13-5 with Bear in the lineup. 21-14-3 in games without him.

The Flyers didn’t fix any problems we had before today. Instead they created awhile set of new ones.

So DeAngelo brings offense and Bear defense on a team that needs all of the offense it can get. DeAngelo got almost 20 min and Bear 16 a game. Correct me if I’m wrong, Bear didn’t see any ice in the playoffs. The Canes have given Bear permission to talk to other teams. I think the Canes wanted DeAngelo but not at that price. They don’t seem to want Bear.

I think Provy gets traded. DeAngelo will be on PP1. York wants to play on the left side. I can't even begin to speculate on the return.

Well. I guess that’s that for the draft. Again, the news, the moves, underwhelming for what we were told to expect back in December

DeAngelo the player is coming here but does he improve our already bad defense? When he comes here, does he bring his points with him or drown with the rest of this current roster? I think a lot of guys on this team are good, they’re just not good here.

They give all of their RFA's permission to talk to other clubs. Standard operating procedure after Montreal negotiated the Aho deal for them.

Bear still has breathing problems after getting Covid. The team limited his ice time in the games he got back in after that just because he couldn't keep going as long. The hope is that he's back up to speed.

Also yeah, they probably would have liked Tony back, but Jake Gardiner being cleared to come back an play kinda blows all sorts of things up.

Yep. Unless they buy him out or can find somebody willing to take a chance on him. But yeah he was cleared to come back. So far all the talk is they'll give him a look in training camp.

i'll be curious to see what he can do. He wasn't fully healthy when he left Toronto.

Doesn't seem to be one. Nobody really knows what he is at this point. He wasn't TERRIBLE when he played but he also hasn't been fully healthy. If taking a year off got him to 100% health again... it's curious.

At a $5M offer sheet, if Carolina hadn't matched, they'd have gotten 1st and 3rd round picks from the Flyers as compensation. Trading a 4th in 2022, 3rd in 2023 and 2nd in 2024 is better for the Flyers compared to that alternative.

still poor asset management when he could have been had last season for no assets, just cash

DeAngelo is the shiny object that Fletcher likes in his bias for action mindset. I see DeAngelo as a piece that doesn’t fit into the Flyer puzzle. He’s one dimensional but that one dimension is high end. He’ll improve the PP. I see the Flyers losing more 6-4 games than 3-1. More scoring brings more entertainment.

I agree.

They need to play better defense and replace some of G’s production in a bad way. Blowing picks on a guy like DeAngelo makes no sense to me.

Correct, we still need two top pairing dmen to play on the top pair. Provy is not one of them. What have you seen the last two years that makes you feel otherwise?

I don’t get why we are now compairing D’Angelo and Provy. Not saying you are doing it, but don’t see why these two are now connected.

Did anyone really think Provy was coming back on the pp and who else were you excited about back there to qb?

As I said earlier, the pp was bad w Jake, G, Ghost and or Provy. It was bad for multiple years. What ghost did last year is irrelevant cause he did not do it here the past couple of years.

However, I agree giving up a 2nd for him to simply leave was bad. It was covering up for a bad contract… although at the time I certainly did not argue w salary and term. It just did not work out.

Let’s call it for what it is. One AVG Gm made mistakes before and now another is struggling to make up for it.

Man you guys luv you some provy.. it’s almost as if you don’t go to the games and watch him. The guy has the yips.
