This should make it clear to everyone Ellis is done, at least for this coming season.
- jd250

Yeah, at a minimum they are extremely skeptical. Not a great sign, but I’m not surprised given how vague and sparse the updates on him have been.

Cutter was projected by some to be a top three pick in the draft! This criticism is just over the top. What, now Fletcher should avoid the best player available in the draft because he played USA hockey??
- jd250

By who? The majority of rankings had him going between 10 and 20 until a few weeks ago when it came out he’ll be playing center. And Bill already said he thinks a better winger lol.

He could’ve taken Nazar. This pick was a reach plain and simple.

I am a conservative. This has nothing to do with his political views.

It’s about a team that just finished bottom 5, throwing away assets time after time for marginal improvement.

It’s poopty management.

- FlyerFan3260

Obviously the conservative comment is idiotic and should be ignored.

The move in and of itself is not an awful move in a vacuum. However it's a continuation of a failed strategy to continually try and trade and sign your way to the top. Putting the team on a path of being a team that can compete for the playoffs but is no where near the top of the league. With no realistic path to the Cup. Putting the team in the worst position a team can be in. Capped out and not good enough. They don't understand how to build a team with continuity in the lineup through the draft. They don't understand how as a lower team, how to use cap space as a weapon against other teams. They continually bail out other teams.

That is your take. IMO the picks are overvalued. Look at the Flyers drafting in the rounds 2-4 the last decade. Based on that wont miss much.

Plus in 2 years when the Flyers are still floundering, they will recoup some of this picks. Maybe more. Maybe less.

- hello it's me 2050

I am not sure why people are complaining. If this year goes so bad, then most likely Fletcher will be fired, and then the Flyers will probably go into that 12-15 year rebuild everyone wants. They will make deals and recoup any of the future picks they moved.

Fletch is going to bring Tomas Kaberle, Claude Lemieux and Billy Tibbets back at this rate. I hate this roster lol

Ah .. go look at McKenzie's rankings in Elite prospects for an example. Cutter was always in the conversation as a top 5 pick and McKenzie had him at 3!

thorough write up on the Flyers 3rd round choice Devin Kaplan

6'3 right shot winger from Bridgewater, NJ

https://smahtscouting.com...ting-report-devin-kaplan/

"Projection

We have Devin Kaplan ranked 36th overall and I’d honestly pound the table to push him higher if I could. I know we’re probably amongst the highest on him in the scouting community, and in my opinion this is THE player in North America who has the ability to way outperform their draft position due to a lack of opportunity in playing time/role in the 2022 draft.

I say this because, for instance, let’s take the eye test: he’s 6’3, moves well, has a motor defensively, has really good puck skill/transitional ability/passing ability, has a great brain, and uses his size to be physical. I would describe him, without data, as the type of player I’d expect administrators in the NHL to drool over. With data? My goodness is Kaplan just screaming upside. So many great indicators outside of his point total including shot differentials, work rates, passing data, transition data, and defensive blue line data in my data set. Even better microstats with some of the public sphere scouts who have tracked Kaplan as well.

I’m not going to sit here and promise he’s going to be a top-6 winger. However, if it happens I’m not going to be shocked at all. I think Kaplan projects conservatively as a middle-six, transitional winger who will be hard on pucks and a great facilitator at starting or managing chain-linked plays in the offensive zone for an NHL club. I think an aggressive projection would be a top 6 winger who can carry the puck and feed pucks to your scorers as well as score around the net. If he is able to develop a shot that can beat goalies from medium distance; we might be talking about a top 10-15 player in a redraft in 5 years."

No they will do what they’ve done before. Defer to Clarke and Homer for advice. There is zero evidence Comcast will change their ways if Chuck gets the boot. Briere will be the next stooge up.

In theory....but if Fletcher gets fired wouldn't they just bring in/promote someone who wants to win now again by making drastic moves?

First, the Flyers are not capped out, no matter how many times you keep posting it. In fact since its pretty much a given that Ellis will not be back, Fletcher just replaced Ellis with a top pairing RHS defenseman for less money, so in actually the Flyers just gained another $1M+ in cap space. Furthermore, Fletcher just got a player that had 51 points and a +30 in only 64 games last season and is only 26 years old, and he got him without giving up any 1st round picks. But only on this forum could we make these ridiculous statements that Fletcher is the worst GM of all time.

This is Chucks M.O. he overvalues USA Hockey to a fault.
- hereticpride

As analysts have argued CF made a high risk high reward pick. My problem is you had an opening for a RHD defenseman and he was there for the taking.

Earlier in the year Gauthier was not, but as draft day got closer and closer his stock rose quite a bit, to the point coming into last night it was thought the Coyotes would pick him at 3.

Briere won’t survive this. If this season goes up in smoke, there will be a bloodletting this organization hasn’t seen before. Fans aren’t coming back if this team isn’t good this year and right now it’s trending that way. Comcast won’t sit on their hands forever and bleed money.

I can't argue any of what you said it's a true. I feel like no matter who we draft there will be the curse and injury issues that haunt this franchise.
If we suck this year burn it down before the deadline and stock draft capital for next year's draft.
It's time to burn it down, Including the front office

- Bob Habib

Sad thing is … even if we suck this year they won’t burn it.

Been saying for years to do it.

More and actually most want it. But they don’t/won’t

Status quo.

I don't think so. If it is that bad there will need to be a change. But also lets see how the rest of the offseason goes. I still think JVR will get moved and would not be shocked if Konecny and Lindblom are moved.

You could see picks coming back in those deals that replace what was lost.

No they won't....Fletcher, who was just preaching the importance of acquiring talent through the draft, just traded away 3 more draft picks. If he's not in a gm capacity, it's no longer his problem.

As far as acquiring more picks to replace those Fletcher has pissed away? Good luck. Everyone is stressing how valuable the upcoming picks are in the next few drafts, and as a result, we are seeing teams stock piling them already for the next 2-3 years. The Flyers will not easily replace them
