Davidson will be to GMing what Colliton was to coaching. - PatShart
Hopefully that means ahead of his time, but I’m skeptical. |

Oh horrors. Gavin Hayes ranked at 84 by Wiz, taken at 66. - boilermaker100
Oh must be another read and.react quick. Plays, makes plays at high speed. Funny or do you say ironic, that is why Forsling was given a shot here. He wasn't ready though.
KD must be a fan of Jimmy John's. Freakin' fast. This second round too; freakin'.fast faced. |

Yes. I was about to comment on the fact that so far no Europeans. Planned or coincidence? - 67hawks
Did they decimate the Euro scouting crew, too, in the leadership changeover? I hoped not as they seemed to be the more successful of all of our scouting teams. |

Well Davidson naming Richardson with his experience and pedigree as opposed to a Colliton-type gives some reason for hope. WTF was Stan thinking on that move? |

According to the Hawks website, Matts Hallin is Director of Euro scouting. He's the guy who found Panarin. |

Thanks for that. I was not paying as much attention back then, so wasn't sure who the key players used to be.

I see a lot of picks that are supposedly possible in later rounds. How much does it matter in an allegedly shallow draft class? Just looking at some of the mocks, there seems to be a lot of players going either way too soon or much later than expected. In a shallower draft class, shouldn't we expect more variance? |

I also wonder if the Hawks having no 4th or 5th round picks comes into play in this equation. Or guys they thought would be there were not, and they stuck to their list.
Hopefully Davidson will address that. |

It be the best of nhl to get hawks back into the playoffs sooner than later since they 2nd American biggest market in nhl behind new york. And what happen with new york 2 years in a row number 1 and 2 picks. Just speculating. |

Ya, think once you get past the first 50 or so, everyones board looks completely different.
Just thought 2 guys in the 3rd that Wiz didn't even have on the board at all seems a bit strange. |

KD was the assistant GM. Did he not have any say? Was he not being heard? - Ogilthorpe2
I'm waiting to read when all is said and done was how much KD leaned on his scouts for this draft/trades. Being as green as he is that seems obvious but still curious to read how much of a consensus all the moves/draft picks there was.
Cuz the dude came out swinging with the orginIzational plan. Nothing done 1/2 way. The franchise is all in on the rebuild, how much a consensus was there?
Could not watch a Lincoln Stars game and not notice 20 yr old Aiden Thompson. Kid is not only skilled he shows a lot of IQ, compete, consistency and when the game gets important the kid steps up. ..... Like the player a lot.
The way they are drafting I doubt they'll take a kid I love, Zam Plante. Average skater, smallish, great motor, plus skill, no player with a higher IQ. |

Two thoughts;
It would be awfully convenient if all the underperforming picks were Stan's in a silo. Don't buy it.
Second, it's not just about the player picked, it's how they develop them (or not). The organization mismanaged several, including Dach IMO, and that will be as much of a factor going forward as the player selected.
The handling of Joker, Boqvist and Dach in particular was brutal. - jrsamu
A very sobering part from an article in today's The Athletic:
If you want to know why the Blackhawks’ cupboard is so bare, both at the NHL and prospect levels, look no further than their willingness to abandon young talent. While it’s true the Blackhawks have done a poor job developing talent in Rockford in general, the fact is, they’ve sent a ton of talent out the door at a young age. Some of it was for playoff-push reasons, some of it was for cap reasons, some of it was just poor judgment.
But this is a staggering truth: Every first draft pick the Blackhawks made from 2011 to 2019 was traded before his 25th birthday. Only DeBrincat even made it to his 24th.
They traded Phillip Danault when he was 23 in an ill-fated win-now move at the trade deadline, only to watch him become a No. 1 center and Selke-caliber two-way force in Montreal and Los Angeles. They traded Teuvo Teravainen at 22 just to shed one year of Bryan Bickell’s $4 million cap hit, only to watch Teravainen become a highly productive top-line talent for the Hurricanes. They traded Ryan Hartman at 23 for a first-round pick that became Nicolas Beaudin, only to watch Hartman score 34 goals with Minnesota a few years later. They traded Nick Schmaltz at 23 for Dylan Strome, who’s about to walk as a free agent, only to watch him become nearly a point-a-game player for Arizona. They traded Henri Jokiharju at 20 for Alex Nylander. They traded Adam Boqvist at 20 in the Seth Jones deal. And now they’ve traded Kirby Dach, the third-overall pick in 2019, at 21 for the No. 13 pick in what experts consider a weak draft. |

I sure hope KD realizes he's green enough not to lean on experts who analyze 16-17-18 yr olds and pay their mortgage doing so. So so so much more to scouting and evaluating than watching a kid and saying wow, he's good.
Handicapping what a young player will be at 25 is not easy. Doesn't matter what a player is at 18 it matters what he'll be at 25. A guy like KD at this stage of his own "development" can't know that.
