Guess he really was bitter about the JC and Seabs stuff...final middle finger to his former club. - pdx2ord
Maybe he just decided it is the right time for him to hang it up? Maybe there is no middle finger at all?
Also, his retirement won't hurt the cap situation much, and might help if a big salary player leaves. |

What is this deal for a nobody (Liam Gorman) about? And why are we giving up a pick for a 22 year-old who appears to have done nothing at the college level? - 67hawks

The Greene pick could be a really good one. Not sure where Wiz had him pegged. - jrsamu
Last yr with the USHL GB Gamblers Ryan Greene was on a line with Cam Lund (went rd 2 early this yr) and Jackson Hallum (3rd rd last yr). When all 3 came to play they were the best line in the league. Size, speed, skill and could really cycle the thing.
Green has NHL size at 6ft 2in, skill and skating. Some nights/shifts he comes to play some not. Consistency is the issue. Off to Boston U next yr so we'll hope for growth in effort and consistency.

You would think we were breaking up the 2015 Hawks, not the Hawks that have not played a playoff game in 5 years.

This is a great point, people throw around #1s like they are all equal.
Not sure if there is a Jimmy Johnson draft pick point chart, but it would be interesting to see the point total for the #7 and #39 (Cat Trade) vs. say the #30 and #28 (Potential Hagel picks)? - vabeachbear
Exactly, that’s why it would be best to include prospects when and if Kane is traded. Doesn’t make sense to get the 30th pick from a contender unless a good young asset is included. |

I get it.
I doubt he got a better offer.
I just think he painted himself in a corner a bit and limited the return. IMO. Timing is everything. - CanHawk
That's not how markets work. If another team wanted Cat enough they could have (and would have) outbid Ottawa. The market sets the value. This board underestimated Hagel's value, so that trade make KD a hero. The board overestimated Cat's value, so KD is a moron. Again, NO participant in the market wanted to pay the Hawks more than what Ottawa paid - or else they would have done so, as the whole league was aware he was on the market. |

Whole lot of nothing here, but I'd expect we'll hear one way or the other like we did with Keith deciding to pursue other opportunities. Can't imagine the FO will want the PR around any potential change to look like a force out.
@TheFourthPeriod
Can confirm Chicago, Patrick Kane and his agent will discuss Kane’s future with the organization, again, in the very near future. |

Can you give your definition of "good value"? - mohel
Good value return should be based on the caliber of the player. One expect a higher return for a player like Dcat then let's say someone like Strome. Good value means getting very good return for the player who left. I don't think that happened in this case. Beat writers etc. Seem to agree. Like I said probably a timing thing or the Chi GM overplayed his hand. Look what Columbus was able to get out of us for Jones and he was carrying a hefty contract so it can be done. |

Agreed. I doubt the cap implications to the Hawks ever crossed his mind. I watched all of his playoffs games this year - the old warrior just doesn’t move like he used to. The series against LA was particularly bad for him, although he did have a better performance against COL.
He deserves to be honored by every Hawks fan - Keith, Seabs, Hammer and Oduya basically won the ‘15 Cup with the rest of the team on their shoulders. |

Found the chart, a #7 pick (665 points) is worth more than 2 #27 picks (291 x 2 582 points)

Kane is eligible for an extension, so he and his agent may want to try to get one done (assuming he wants to stay). If the Hawks won't commit, Kane likely asks for a trade this summer to get on with his post-Hawks life. |

True - but those four guys had the blueline down on lock for Crawford. Especially in the WCF against ANA. |

Its an opinion.
Some say it's the best he could of done.
Many others say he got fleeced. I am of that opinion.
But none of us are experts and none of us are the GM of an NHL franchise so in the end everyone is right and everyone is wrong. Time will tell if the right deal was done at that specific time. |
