I think this is pretty good for the Sens. Sens are on the hook for $1.55m and Leafs take on $4.7 of the cap hit. May turn out to be good deal for both teams.

Someone is going to have to explain to me why the Leafs want Murray, even at $4.7M/yr. This is a MASSIVE gamble by Dubas... betting on Murray for the last 2yrs of Matthews' contract. I guess they could view him as a potential LTIR insurance, but if he's actually healthy he could single-handedly cost them a chance at home-ice advantage in any round of the playoffs.

I honestly can’t make any sense of choosing to go with Matt Murray at 4.7 mill which is 300k less than what Jack Campbell is gonna make

Ouch. It sounds like you are having a bad day.

Future considerations is the minimum to satisfy the NHL's trade requirements. It just means they will include a small asset of nominal value such as a conditional draft pick or a minor league player. Many times the conditional pick is simply a condition that will not happen. Sometimes it is a player but in this case, I am not so sure you are going to get much more out of this deal.

I think Connor Brown is gone before noon on Wednesday. There are a lot of Leaf fans waiting for him to be sent to Toronto. Some Edmonton bloggers are would like to see Connor Brown with the Oil. He has a great contract and is a valuable trade piece. He would also fit well on the Sens third line. But I don't think Toronto is an option for Connor Brown.

Yup you nailed it! I told him its a lower end prospect but if Murray has a bounce back then it will be a higher end prospect. Its like when a deadline deal is done....they say if the team advances to the 3rd round then the draft pick increases etc....

AZ wants him because they know they can flip him out at the deadline for another 1st rounder!

It was great to see PD use his leverage knowing the Leafs were in a bind....by not retaining 50% salary....had he done that....the fanbase wouldn't be as happy....instead the Leafs fanbase is pissed lol

So, I have always thought the best gauge of the Sens from year to year is how they do head to head against the Leafs and Montreal. Often HNIC games with lots of noise the best of hockey hype.

Murray starting in goal for the Leafs is only going to add the hype.

On its face, I think this appears to be a rare Win / Win trade. All of the the risk is on the Leafs. The only downside for the Sens is for the potential Murray haunting this season.
- HoweHatrick

The more I ponder this trade, the less "win" I am associating with the Leafs.

Unless the public is not privy to some pertinent information, the trade seems to be an unnecessary a gamble for Mr. Dubas.

It'll be nice to hopefully see less Leafs or Habs fans at the Sens home games if the roster continues to be upgraded....this past year was disgraceful how it was like 80/20 Leafs or Habs fans vs. Sens fans.

But a gamble, even with long odds can win. Murray shows flashes of brilliance at times. Maybe Dubas believes he knows how to manage the health issues

Massive gamble....you gotta think the Leafs core who loved Campbell will lose it if Murray stumbles....Matthews 2 years left on his deal....hmmmm

The one thing Murray has going for him in Toronto is that both the GM and HC like him.....Murray didn't have that here!

Agreed, he cleaned up two mistakes in White and Murray so now if he can hit a homerun and get Chychrun or Marino on D, then sign Giroux....he will be looking like gold. He does need to move Zaitsev so this coach doesn't have him on the roster as an option! MDZ was paid 1M bonus already....I hope he can move him soon too.

But think about it....JBD and Sokolov are destined for Belleville all year! Brown is gone in a year....so you really.....you gotta go for it, an established top 4 d at age 23!
- Kevin Francis

I see what you're saying. I like JBD and would be sorry to see him go but getting Chychrun, who apparently can play the right side, would help me get over it. I never cared for Sokolov so I don't much care.

The unprotected first is a risk because I don't think Forsberg can handle more than 50 games if that and we don't know how Gus will work out. If that tandem screws the pooch they will be a lottery team again next year. I've been saying for a while now that they can't be spending like drunken sailors because they may need money for a goalie not too far down the road.

Connor Brown is the guy that everybody on here is always saying that the team needs to add - that steadying veteran presence - and this one can play up and down your lineup which is important when you run into injury issues. Great in the room, everybody likes him and a great role model. You don't trade this guy - you sign him to a nice extension.

I don't think the DeBrincat acquisition was wise because you need to sign first Norris and then Stutzle to contracts and you're saying 40 goals and nothing else because we're talking a 5'7" 165 lb midget - well those 40 goals get you at least 9 million.

Norris is your first line C and plays on the first PP unit and was on pace for more than 40 goals. If I'm him I'm not standing still for the midget making more than me.

Stutzle is 20 years old and is already wowing people with his skill and developing playmaking ability. Many, including myself, think he will emerge as the true number 1C on this team this year. He also plays on the number 1 PP unit.

These guys have great chemistry and is evident to everyone who watches them. This year this little midget is going to come in and upset the applecart. DeBrincat will be played on the number 1 PP unit which is going to piss somebody off.

They may try DeBrincat on the first line with Tkachuk and Norris but that won't work because it's Batherson who makes that line work. So DeBrincat plays with Stutzle. If that doesn't work you've got a big problem but let's say that it works great and even matches or outperforms that first line. Now what do you pay Stutzle who you could argue is your actual number 1C?

If the DeBrincat experiment works and you sign him for the 9-10 million he most likely will want you will run into problems in the playoffs because of his size and you will have shot your team salary structure to sh_t.

If it doesn't work and you're able to flip him out for a good return you still will have damaged that great team chemistry perhaps beyond repair and you will have shot your team salary structure to sh_t.

I like Chychrun and if he can indeed play the right side well I would want either the unprotected first or Connor Brown off the table. My personal preference would be to keep Connor Brown. Ottawa never wins the lottery anyway.

Wow. That is a lot of effort some pretty meaningless speculation.

You should try being positive. It's great for your mental and physical health.
