Sens to introduce a defensive advisor for development soon. I think this is Methot
- Crosside

First, PD needs to focus on ufa and trade period....secondly Methot said he hasn't been approached.

Kane has a NMC though.
- Kevin Francis

Hawks appear to be pushing open the door and inviting Patrick Kane to leave. In a situation like that he has probably earned the right to go wherever he would like. If I were him my list would be very short and limited to the four semi-finalists from last year (Colorado, Tampa, Edmonton and Rangers) and a few pretenders like Florida and Carolina...maybe LA Kings who seem to be doing a great off season job of adding to their roster. Kane would be a crazy smart move for Leafs if they could also move Nylander to improve their goaltending and defence.

Kane's actual salary is $2.9m (after bonus payment) and the Hawks are in a position to be able to take back a huge chunk of his cap hit of $10.5m.

If Calgary decides they want to move Matthew Tkachuk, should the Senators consider becoming a bidder in the action?

no, he wants too much and would cost too much, OTT cannot have 2 player making 9m+ in addition to what Brady, Chabot are making and Norris pending 7-8M deal

NHL Scout's Analysis: Picks of interest from each round of 2022 NHL Draft

https://www.sportsnet.ca/...-round-of-2022-nhl-draft/

ROUND 5

No. 136: Jorian Donovan, Ottawa Senators

The son of Senators Director of Player Development Shean Donovan, Jorian is a nice add in the fifth round. He scored 22 points (three goals, 19 assists) in his rookie OHL season with Hamilton this year. What I like most about this selection is Donovan can be used in a variety of roles. I’m projecting him to score more as he matures at the OHL level. He skates very well, outlets responsibly, has good size (6-foot-1, 183 lbs.) and will only get stronger. He will likely see some power-play time in junior but I’m not seeing him as a fit in that role as a pro.

Sometimes nepotism can sneak into some decisions that organizations make. This isn’t an example of that. Donovan has a chance to be more than just a bottom pairing “D” as a pro. I’m confident saying he’s going to put the work in. This pick has Senators scout Don Boyd written all over it and it’s a good one.

The more I consider the rumored Murray / Sabres trade, the more I suspect that the details of the deal were not as reported. Is it possible the deal included a third team (Arizona / Chicago) that had other parts involved? That seems far more plausible.

It seems highly suspect as reported. When you consider how it panned out it makes it even less probable the PD was sending the 7th and Murray for a 16th.

- HoweHatrick

At his availability in Montreal, Dorion hinted that even if Murray had moved to Buffalo, a three-way deal was possible with the Sabres' first-round pick (at No. 16) shifting to Chicago with DeBrincat coming to Ottawa, likely with a Sens prospect included.

https://www.sportsnet.ca/...re-in-the-next-phase-now/

I wonder what prospect / assets were included in the 3-way deal he mentioned and what that full trade would have looked like.

I saw a report where Murray may now be open to a Buffalo trade. I wonder if that prospect destined in the original plan to go to the Hawks now gets added to a revised Buffalo deal.

Absolutely. It would be dumb not to if he were available. The buzz you would generate of having the Tkachuk ‘s playing together would be awesome.

At what cost though? The Sens are at a point where they’re giving big money to guys who haven’t even taken us to a wild card position. The last thing you wanna do is be stuck with a bunch of 7-10m dollar players without having anything to show for it.

They still need a long term solution in net and they still need a couple of dmen.

Yes! But don't worry it ain't happening....like they want another head case to go with Murray lol
- Kevin Francis

Also don’t we currently have 3 goalies on 1 way deals?

So we would have to get rid of Murray and one of Gus/Forsberg. Or we’d have to send Gus down to clear waivers (and lose him)

Get him next summer when he's a UFA. If Gaudreau leaves this week, then the Flames will RFA sheet him for his one year deal. Some team will trade for him at the deadline as a rental. Then he will sign in STL next summer with Tarasenko and O'Reilly coming off their books.

They tried to get Husso before Detroit did. But I think you are right, he sounded pretty pissed and said they don't players who don't want to play in Buffalo.

Some fans don't get it, they just post stuff without thinking. Your GM has far more things to accomplish the next 2 weeks then to get a 4th goalie.

He has already stated that the Murray trade will not because Buffalo doesn't want players that don't want to be there.

Understand. But Murray has now come out and said he might be interested in going to Buffalo. I assume that is an "I'm sorry" statement pushed by his agent. Will it be good enough for Adams?

If we listen to the noise, the Sens should be going big on Chychrun (my guess is they will need to offer up a 1st, 2nd and 3rd plus a prospect and a player (Zaitsev).

Are they still looking to make an offer to Giroux?

Word is that OTT/TOR have intensified discussions around Matt Murray. We will see how things play out, but those conversations continue.

So, are we talking Nylander for Murray? Or, is this just fluffy smoke coming from Bruce?

from this very blog man...

UPDATED - The Yotes are asking for 2023 1st round pick unprotected, JBD and Sokolov. I was told AZ asked for Brannstrom too, to acquire Chychrun. Yotes are maintaining they want 4 pieces for him.....Sens offering 3 pieces.....Yotes have countered asking for the Sens 2nd rd pick they got from TB.

and yes they gonna push hard for Giroux

Yes! Yes! and Yes!

If that is deal, take it and run.

Several other teams are warming up to the idea of Chycuran and they (like LA Kings) also have a deep prospect pool.

I assume Zaitsev gets fitted into the deal somehow?

Jesus if Dorion pulls that off and signs Giroux as well we are all going to have to go to the Oratory in Montreal for the canonization of St. Pierre.

So, I guess it sounds greedy and a little impractical to wonder if Dorion might also put in an offer on Matthew Tkachuk?

https://www.tsn.ca/travis...hl-rebuild-take-1.1819611

This is a spectacular analysis by Travis Yost indicating that around year 5 of a rebuild, the rebuilding team needs to switch gears and go all in trying to win it all. You might not win everything but you should have a pretty good run.

On the other hand, Yost illustrates, that teams that continue trying to rebuild beyond the 5 year mark actually regress as players become discouraged and frustrated by the lack of success or progress by the team.

Really good read. Highly relevant to the Senators of today.
