What is the obsession with Deangelo? He is a major defensive liability whose point totals were greatly inflated by huge powerplay usage. He might have single-handedly sank the Canes in the playoffs to with his horrible defensive play. Carolina fleeced the Flyers because this guy isn't all he is cracked up to be and just worse than a player than Gostisbehere was.

While nothing is certain in when drafting a prospect, they say Nemec is an offensive defenseman in that he is a good passer but not saying he is a bad defender because of that. Deangelo is a completely one dimensional player whereas Nemec has multiple upsides. Would you expect Nemec to play powerplay, yes, but that isn't the only thing he should be good at.

I also don't think Deangelo is better than any of our defensemen, except on the powerplay and even then he wasn't actually impressive. Carolina's powerplay greatly suffered at the end of the season and was working at like <10% over a sample of over 100 powerplays.

My thinking is he wont get 4 at the end of his career, but might get 2 mil more at the beginning.

So 4 mil across 8 seems fair to me, to stay with the team hes been with and hopefully loves playing for.

I would immediately put pen to paper on that deal! The Severson hate has never made sense to me and its always anecdotal evidence. I'm not saying he's the greatest defenseman to ever play, but there's a lot of gray area between that and the overhyping of how bad he is. If we can lock him for 8 more years at $4M, it's a no brainer to sign him.

Fitz says he expects to sign Nemec to his ELC this week. He expects Nemec to play in North America next season and Nemec expressed his willingness to play in the AHL.

Wonder if there’s any truth to EK’s Devils interest in Nylander. Guy never did anything for me. Probably would be Severson going back I’d imagine... leaving a huge hole for us to fill.

maybe they talked about it. Leafs need a goalie and defense but Severson and Blackwood would have been a very steep price to pay.

Yeah I'd say pretty good overall, B or B+ i'd say. Still stings leaving Wright on the board but Nemec is someone to truly he hyped about. And getting Seamus Casey in the middle of the 2nd round after trading back in the VV trade, when he had a 1st round grade from a ton of people, is a big W. Then a few other value picks in Brennan/Orlov/Filmon. Leddy/Hauser/Barabosha were fine picks, pretty much in line with where they were expected to go. Genuinely pleased with the outcome here.

The fact that we didn't go completely off the board with any picks like we did in the past few drafts is great in itself lol.

Now to see what Fitz does in the next week or so in regards to free agency and/or if any trades pop up. Excited for Wednesday to come to see what we do.

I saw a tweet earlier saying we had Filmon as the 49th ranked prospect so I guess they really see something there that other teams didn't.

I was not pleased by the Nemec pick at first since we didn't draft best player available but from the looks of it he is the best defenseman in the draft and they seem to think he is somebody that isn't that far out of the NHL.

Yea it’s still not unbelievable to me that we passed on Wright lol. It feels like we passed on Stamkos to draft Sergachev... because we had a need for a RHD. You take the Stamkos.
