Welp, there goes Husso - vlongo4419
Day 2 into the offseason and they’ve only managed to make me die inside each day. Husso was my fish. |

The Devils have acquired Vitek Vanecek and pick 46 from the Caps for picks 37 and 70. |

I’ve heard of this guy. Hope he’s worth 37. .. not that we’d hit on 37 anyway. |

Yeah I mean he's only 26, so he still has upside. We'd probably whiff on our 3rd round pick anyway so taking him for sliding down 9 slots. Getting a 2nd back is good here.
Per Todd, Vanecek was top 10 in the league in 5-on-5 save% and posted a better high-danger save% than the likes of Feddie Andersen, Vasy, Saros, and Hellebuyck. |

Thank god. Massively overpaying for Cambell or Kuemper would have not been good. |

Devils have drafted D Seamus Casey at 46 overall. Very very solid pick. Huge upside there. Going to Michigan next year(we now have half of their D core lol) |

People can complain all they want. After Montreal shocked the world and took my guy Slaf #1OA, Nemec was the best choice for NJ. A right handed d-man with his skill and potential is what every team has to pay out the ass for in free agency. Our defense core is BALLER now.
The "you HAVE to draft the best player available, not based on need" argument is stupid imo. Drafting best player available is how teams took Heiskenan over Makar and Reinhart over Draisaitl. It's not a fool proof strategdy either.
As for Wright, I HIGHLY doubt Fitzy and Bill Armstrong weren't trying to trade back when Wright fell to them. Obviously no one thought the kid was worth trading up for. Not sure why, his OHL numbers were beastly, but you can't force teams to trade with you. The league's interest in him wasn't there. Fitzy made the right call taking Nemec. - jtylerm
I watched the picks of Semec and Wright in the highlight section.
The slovaks family was so excited. Hearing him talk he seemed so humble and honored to be chosen.
Wrights family barely showed emotion and they seemed more disappointed. Kind of weird.
I wonder if Wright has some ego issue. Maybe all the attention the kid got in last few years changed that family and him, not in a positive way?
His skill level is obviously not the reason 3 teams passed on him. |

Multiple people said during the interviews he seemed a little entitled. Kept stating that he should be taken 1OA and rumors swirled that he basically told AZ he didn’t want to play for them. |

Vanecek was on my list of potential goalies worth going after. The Husso contract is a bit too much but I get why Detroit did it since they similarly have goaltending issues. I think Fitz did well here. |

Yeah, I really like Nemec's personality. We'll never know what happened with Wright falling, but it's pretty telling that every team passed TWICE on trading up to get him. I'm happy with the pick given Slaf was gone. |

One day one of the goalies we draft will be an NHL player. |

Triple dipping on D, at 110 the Devils take Daniil Orlov. Not a bad pick in the middle of the 4th. Someone you can stash away for a few years and try to bet on the tools. 6'2 and a very smooth skater. |

Another D! Charles Leddy at pick 126. Lmao no forwards allowed here! |
|
|

Devils take their first forward at 141, RW Petr Hauser. He big. |

Don't worry, he'll be the backup as Fitz will break the bank for Keumper to be the starter.
Side note: CAR got a few non-substantial picks (3rd, 4th and 5th) for T Deangelo. Seeing this, I would have preferred Fitz send CAR this package for Tony D and then use the 2OA on a FORWARD.
Used to be "In Lou We Trust" and now feels more like "In Fitz We Fear". |

At 166, the pick is LW Josh Filmon. Seems like a solid value pick. One more pick to go! |

What is the obsession with Deangelo? He is a major defensive liability whose point totals were greatly inflated by huge powerplay usage. He might have single-handedly sank the Canes in the playoffs to with his horrible defensive play. Carolina fleeced the Flyers because this guy isn't all he is cracked up to be and just worse than a player than Gostisbehere was. |

He's also a complete POS off the ice and a total hothead on the ice that gets taken off his game pretty easily. He'll help their PP but thats about it. Thats an awful trade for Philly, especially when you consider their cap situation. They now only have 100k in space left with multiple RFAs to sign and will need a backup goalie too. Gonna need to move a ton out if they expect to be in the Gaudreau race. |

Wish we could’ve traded for and extended DeBrincat.. but probably no way to actually do that. I’d give our pick plus another in a heartbeat if that was the case.
We’re going to overpay for JG instead. Meh. |
