Thanks for sharing that rumor on Dach. I wouldn't trade him for a 1st rounder alone. It depends on where in the round the pick is and acquire another NHL-projectable asset, too, even if it means expanding the deal where the Hawks add an extra piece (like his brother). - Theo Fox
Silver lining might be appropiate term when you consider this Dach trade talk serves as an impetus to show that he can be a bigger force, a larger contributor on the ice. Of course off season weight training is a contributing factor in how he projects himself, or the confidance to show he contributes more than he ever has |

The pressure from the media got to him like i said earlier today, that was the best he could do, not worth it |

Crap, that was an underwhelming and disappointing trade.
I'll have a new blog in tomorrow morning with thoughts on the DeBrincat trade and a recap of the 1st round now that the Hawks have the 7th overall and who knows maybe another pick if more trades go down today. |

Hawks with 3 2nd rd picks. Maybe package a couple to move up to the 1st round. So that's another 1st. And maybe Dach gets you another one. |

Damn Theo i hope they draft well, to give away a 24 year old like that is disturbing |

With the 7th overall pick, here is what I wrote in today's blog on possible candidates to pick:
But if the Hawks somehow have the honor to pick 5th or 7th -- and presuming that Slafkovsky is gone by then -- either defenseman David Jiricek or Simon Nemec could be the one to call. Both are projected to have 1st pair potential as both are solid in all zones and can generate offense but may not pile up points.
However, neither Jiricek nor Nemec may be #1 material like Victor Hedman (2nd overall in 2009) or Aaron Ekblad (1st in 2014). Then again, people laughed at the Red Wings when they took this year's Calder Trophy winner Moritz Seider at 6th in 2019. Seider may be in Hedman/Ekblad territory. Who's laughing now?
If not Jiricek or Nemec, then one of centers Matthew Savoie or Marco Kasper or wingers Cutter Gauthier or Frank Nazar may be worth a top 10 selection. Savoie is the most offensively gifted and electrifying. Kasper is an impact three-zone pivot pegged for a scoring line. Gauthier and Nazar are high-energy spark plugs. |

Marco Kasper!!! Then package 2 2nd rounders move into the 1st, grab the biggest faller (Yurov?) and take a swing on Lambert or Cossack Miroshnechenko. Hawks don't need this guy for a few yrs so a Russian should not scare them.
Does one of the Euro Dmen or Gauthier fall to 7th? - Mr Ricochet
KD will go off the board and draft Lane Hutson at #7.

What was he thinking with this trade? Not even two 1sts.... You keep him then.
I guess KD wants to tank hard. |

Hmmm... Totally underwhelming given the weak draft and unpredictability of the 7th pick.
Let's look at #7 picks:
2003- R. Suter
2004- R. Olesz
2005-J. Skille
2006- K Okopso
2007- J. Vorachek
2008- C. Wilson
2009- N. Kadri
2010- J. Skinner
2011- M. Scheifle
2012- M. Dumba
2013- D. Nurse
2014- H. Fleury
2015- I. Provorov
2016- C. Keller
2017- L. Anderrson
2018- Q. Hughes
2019- D. Cozens
2020- A. Holtz
2021- W. Eklund
CBJ got much more for Jones. What makes it worse is we didn't get a 2023 pick.

Debrincat return was hindered by the fact that he's a 2 year rental. Doubt if he would sign long term with Ottawa
And who knows, maybe he has a handshake deal with KD to come back as a free agent two summers from now. |

one issue is stan really screwed that contract how do you have a 6.4 aav and a $9 QO.
that is a really big # for a wing. have you ever heard a QO that high for wing? if that was only 7.5 I think the return is higher. there is not alot in incentive to for him to sign Long term knowing at worse he gets $9mil next year. I called it. Kyle was going to take the best offer he could get so Kane and Teows and murph and maybe now ever Jones want out. can also use that cap space to keep adding more assets by taking back contracts. |

I don't think it is that bad. Mark Stone didn't get much more than that. Top D prospect and 2nd round pick and a throw in forward I believe. |

Oh my what an underwhelming return.
Really disappointed right now. - TommyHawk
I think KD is gonna tell us teams were afraid of giving up a boatload and losing Dcat as a UFA after 2 yrs. ....... IMO KD had to understand that and try and have the parameters of the next contract worked out for the club taking him or at least have conditions that if Dcat signs long term the 3rd rd pick goes to a 1st.
I never did believe the asking price reported, 3 1sts and a prospect, but did think they could get the 2nd and Holtz. So without knowing the next dominoes that may fall I'm underwhelmed too.
Marco Kasper, come on down!!

Keith recapture if it happens 5.3M, plus room for likes of Lucic, Monahan, Mrazek with sweeteners. I hope.

Pretty funny our original pick is the pick right before what we just received. So now we essentially traded Cat, Boqvist & last years first (Sillinger) for Seth. Pretty awful to think about it in that way. |

I don't think - for some - the return matters; tolerating the suckage of the next several years will be hard for some to take. KD and Luke are in for a beating here, imo. - mohel
And it has now begun!!! |

Well they had to do something to change the course of the franchise and while the return is underwhelming - maybe it was less because Ottawa couldn't agree to extension terms.
At least they made some kinda move.
Should be interesting to see what they do next. Maybe they could move up now. |
