He is still a RFA after this upcoming season. That is what they mean. - Elbows15
Gotcha. I don't really like the return at all but does he get more at the trade deadline? Idk.
I don't see any reason to move Dach though. We just drafted his brother. Assume that wasn't only a coincidence.

Does KD make the trade if he has his own 1st round pick this draft? |

With the cap only going up $1 mil. for the next couple of years, $9 million (at a minimum) is very hard if not impossible to swallow for most teams. And if ADB refused to sign an extension with anyone, I could see why teams passed for a 2 year rental. - LAHawk
In effect possibly owing a first round draft choice and the player you owe it for is gone. That's a stupid GM. |

My guess is KD is full of poop and trying to spin an awful trade. - Elbows15
Agreed. So glad I dumped my season tickets after 59 years in my family. This return for a 25 year old 40 goal scorer is ludicrous !! How the frank is this considered a positive move and a " knock your socks off " offer KD ???? What a crock.
So disappointed in this organization after 10 years of superiority.

AT LEAST 3 years behind on this rebuild and don't really like this trade. 24 year old 40 goal scorer that also plays on the PK. Was thinking we could of got a better return. Hopefully this starts a domino process with some other players. If they are going to do this, don't half ass like the past 6 plus years as we all seen how successful those have been. |

Well, the specifics are they got one asset for him. The 3rd is a nothing and 2 years out. The 2nd has a 25% chance of playing in the NHL.
So they got a top 8 pick is a poopty draft for one of the best goal scorers in the league.
There is no way to spin this into a positive. - Elbows15
Yup. NHL network people are scratching their heads. |

The draft has no generational talent (yet) and but the top #11 are pretty solid.
I agree with youy that #38 & #39 are crap shoots.
I checked the draft value charts and the two late Tampa first rounders in many ways makes the trades remarkably similar in values except for the fact in a year the cat will want $10. million and Hagel will be making 3 million. |

If that's the best offer you're getting, just hold out longer. You've got another year of control. No reason to jump the gun now.

That being said if KD didn't force the trade, i hate to see one he is forced to do (like Kane/Toews) - LAHawk
LA- As I step back from utter disappointment, this makes sense that the Cat is not to far from being an UFA, with no extension in place, it's likely many teams passed.
At this point though, I'd rather have Seattle's 4th than Ottawa's 7th, 39th and the bookend 2024 pick. Let's hope that scouting team was revamped with talent and we have some luck here. However, I'm used to the Hawks picking the wrong guy.

See a lot of reaction with people underwhelmed by return for DeBrincat. Understandable, I guess, and probably even fair to say CHI thought they might get more when process started.
That said, not sure all fully appreciate what $ DeBrincat will be paid. Not an easy deal to swing. - Chunk
Also could be why they felt they needed to trade him, and thought the return today is better than they would have got at TDL. I assume they would have done their due diligence and found out what an extension would look like.
That said, I didn't think they should trade him at all, but that's me.
I'm kind of also thinking with KD so desperate to make the trade, they have their eyes on someone specific, and figured #7 was high enough to get him. |

Only logical reason for this ridiculous trade is two fold
1-Force Kane/Toews to waiver their clauses to be traded. Do they really want to play with a glorified beer league team next year?
2-Guarantee to have the worst record in the NHL next year, giving them the best chance at that very coveted 1-1
There is no other explanation I can find, because the return sucks for a 25 year old 40 goal scorer |

They traded a top line player for an at best middle 6 guy. Hopefully Jiricek or Nemec falls to them. The forwards after the top 3 all have some serious flaws.
Hagel still has 2 years left on his deal. |

Why? What if management told KD they weren't going to let him resign Dcat for 9-10 mil?
You just keep him and hope he stays healthy and gets back more later down the road? That really hurt the Hawks before.....
Also why is everyone saying he has 2 years left? I only see him signed through 22/23 on capfriendly. - bhawks2241

Next few years are going to be pre 2008 at the UC.
Going to have the entire 320 section to myself for $15.
The team will be bad but as you all know, it’s the best sport to see live.
The money I save on tickets will buy me a few beers.

A guy who has done nothing but fill the net his whole life. How many of these guys about to be drafted even have one 40 goal season at any level on their resume?
At most, one. |

The guy they traded was drafted 39. Every player has flaws. Flawless players often bust... Do I like the trade? No. But time will tell. |
