See a lot of reaction with people underwhelmed by return for DeBrincat. Understandable, I guess, and probably even fair to say CHI thought they might get more when process started.

That said, not sure all fully appreciate what $ DeBrincat will be paid. Not an easy deal to swing.

What an ugly awful trade. It could pan out if the Hawks get lucky, but not a good sign.

If Geekie's available I’m hoping that too. But KD just took what some posters claim was the lowest offer for ADB so we have to assume KD will (frank) up the pick.

He is #13 on my board.

If he can't get back in junior with his giant circle turn reverse, how long will it take to fix his cement shoes?

I thought the main complaint was Dylan Strome's feet and here you are looking to draft another? Here is my scouting report from Lines, com:

Conor Geekie
A Winnipeg fan favorite who just doesn't seem to slot well in the top part of the first round, and like little brother of Morgan, he has excelled in many parts of the game as a strong two-way junior competitor, but his jenky skating weak stride with little knee-bend makes him an average in the junior leagues. His cement feet affect his works in transition, in the carries in the middle zone and with zone entires. Usually he is the last player back and does lots of puck chasing and he losses his man when he cheats up. He has to make wide runs to get going in transition.

So where does that leave him as a prospect? Is he destined to being a bottom six player or a long term developmental guy who you hopes works his bags off to improve his galoshes.

If you watch him with the Winnipeg Ice, you can’t help but be a fan and hope for the best. So let’s look at his best points. He is a highly co-ordinated big man who can beat you with his skilled stick-handling, shot, hockey IQ, or by using his massive frame. He acts as a power-play quarterback, has soft hands for big man, passes really well, and has shifty body jukes when he is one-on-one. He protects the puck well, and he is outstanding in plays away from the puck. He has a toolbox! So ,it really becomes a matter of him eventually being able to be an impact top six player (and probably not a centre). His upside is huge.

Or possibly Jones demanding a trade.

Let us hope. No one wants his contract unless the Hawks eat part of it.

See my earlier post..

No Debrincat + No Strome = Kane waiving his NMC

- boilermaker100

Got to think Kane saw the playoffs this year, especially all the scoring, and was wanting a piece of that action.

He will probably wait until the trade deadline to get the best situation for the playoffs.

He's also delusional enough to think that the rebuild timeline is only 4 or 5 years when in reality its at least 7 but more realistically 8-10 since they're starting from scratch.
- fattybeef

He thinks it can be 2-3, and said that COL turned it around in that amount of time. He's a pud and should stop writing.

I think we all are underwhelmed with the return, but end of the day, we don't know all of the specifics. I am surprised that they only got one 1st.

Great trade by KD
Cat is going to look for huge $$$ & Hawks are in full rebuild

Do not want any players for next year the main goal for next year is to have the "#1" pick in next years draft

Dach
Kane
Murphy next to go

For all his bluster, KD threw the did cat's name out there and then could not take it back. He forced the deal and didn't get one new weapon for 2023, which is a disappointment.

And the fact that only ONE of the franking picks is BEFORE our #38 is horse plop too.

It only happened because the trade of the 7th overall to Buffalo for # 27 for sabres to take goalie Murray was nixed by Murray no trade clause.

If Murray had waved his clause this pick would have been Buffalo's

I CAN tell you why it happened...at that slot they do get an NHLer. After slot #11 the talent is less iffy that you pluck a long careered impact player.
They decided they needed to get in early in the dance and despite losing DeBrincsat, they get a really really good player here.

Unless the two Russians are there at #38 & #39 the new scouting staff will be hard pressed at the guaranteed impact player except at #7.

I would say Cutter Gauthier but everything depends on some teams taking the Czech and Slovak defenders -if the drop, you are looking at Matthew Savoie a terrific small attacker, or big Marco Kasper.
Hopefully Jonathan Lekkerimäki or Cutter Gauthier are there....

Might end up being worse than the Panarin trade. Unbelievable. Hawks organization is the laughing stock of the entire league. Already was before this trade. Now it’s just more emphatic. Worst time ever to be a Hawks fan. Dark Ages. And who knows how long it’s going to last.

Yeah agree with you.

Just gets us closer to win the Bedard sweepstakes getting no prospects in return. Unlikely that the #7 will play this year as well.

LOL

It is Cutter Gauthier time!

Cutter Gauthier's dad is former WCW professional wrestler "Mean Mike" Gauthier, he and his partner "Tough Tom" formed the tag team 'Disorderly Conduct'. "Mean Mike" was good friends with former WCW heavyweight champion Diamond Dallas Page, and Mean Mike named his son "Cutter" after Diamond Dallas Page's finishing move 'The Diamond Cutter'.

Why? What if management told KD they weren't going to let him resign Dcat for 9-10 mil?

You just keep him and hope he stays healthy and gets back more later down the road? That really hurt the Hawks before.....

Also why is everyone saying he has 2 years left? I only see him signed through 22/23 on capfriendly.

Well, the specifics are they got one asset for him. The 3rd is a nothing and 2 years out. The 2nd has a 25% chance of playing in the NHL.

So they got a top 8 pick is a poopty draft for one of the best goal scorers in the league.

There is no way to spin this into a positive.

With the cap only going up $1 mil. for the next couple of years, $9 million (at a minimum) is very hard if not impossible to swallow for most teams. And if ADB refused to sign an extension with anyone, I could see why teams passed for a 2 year rental.

That being said if KD didn't force the trade, i hate to see one he is forced to do (like Kane/Toews)

What could the Hawks expect to get for Kane now?

If a 24 year old with multiple 40-goal campaigns and two years left on his deal only nets you a high 1st, high 2nd, and a 3rd round pick...

How much could they realistically expect to get for a player 9 years older and on an expiring contract?
