Wouldn't Heinen be cheaper than Pulijuvari? He only scored 14 goals last year and Heinen put up 21. Am I missing something?

Yes. He's only 24, getting better each year, better defensively and is bigger, and more physical.

I didn't hear that but if it's true it is just further proof Hextall is a jackass. Absolute no brainer if Geno is cool with $6M per.

Hex may not have full control over the term due to the new management. Did he ever even submit that plan to ownership for his plan for the team?

Heinen also hadn't put up more than 11 in the prior 5 years

Yeah he did and apparently what sold them was his commitment to locking up Letang and Geno. So I doubt they are blocking him over length

I wonder if Rakell will be signed right after Letang and Malkin. Losing him would be really bad.

Puljujarvi, Heinen and Rodrigues sign two out of three of them.

And I feel like one of our d-man will be traded in the draft.

While I agree that trading the 21st overall pick might be the best course of action at this stage of the Pens team, it's still kind of special and rare to have a 1st round pick in this era of Pens hockey hahaha

Reading about malkins alleged gripes is kinda interesting. It’s considered bad business to pay players for past accomplishments, not what’s to come. I agree w/ that to an extent, but players are also seen as greedy a$$h0les when they want their market value.
Geno took less last contract, has played thru injury, and is a franchise great, so I can see how he feels somewhat disrespected. Apparently, he’s also not happy it’s so close to free agency, and they aren’t settled. Problem is, new ownership & management have no loyalties to him, and I’m not sure what he actually wants. $6mx4yrs, if true, is probably too long, but doesn’t seem like it’s insane by any stretch, considering they’ve been paying sucker $5m/yr.
Probably sold the team a year early, but maybe timing is why they wanted to buy it?

There’s 2 options. You draft a Russian at 21 or you use the pick to get help now.

Just realized that it’s from Rossi, so who knows if it true at all.

“Malkin, the league sources said, feels the Penguins have not shown him “respect deserving of a ‘legacy player'” by offering a short-term deal at a low annual value, and also for “not signing him (with) free agency so close.” He agreed to his current contract in June 2013 — a full year before he was free-agent eligible. Malkin, the league sources said, had expected his contract would be settled during this past season.”

“The Penguins’ third all-time leading scorer, Malkin is the only player in franchise history other than Mario Lemieux to win the Calder, Art Ross, Hart and Conn Smythe trophies. He feels his willingness to take less than market value on two previous contracts, as well as playing the 2021 postseason with multiple torn ligaments in his knee that required surgery, merits “a more sincere attempt to keep him in Pittsburgh,” a league source said.”

I agree 100% with him. This should have been last offseason's business unless the Penguins felt he was going to fall off a cliff production wise.

The amount of just straight disrespect by Penguin fans has been really surprising. I cannot tell you how many people I've encountered, friends/family/co-workers/strangers, who have said Malkin needs to go. He's always kinda been the poster child for when things go wrong, but the number of people who think you can just plug Trocheck in for Malkin and expect the same result is mindblowing.

One other thing I'm sure Ill hate tonight is the Penguins draft pick. I see Hextall taking the most conservative player imaginable. A "safe" bet that likely wont be ready for at least 3 years. We drafted Poulin in 2019 and he's still no where near ready.

If we make a pick, i want a high risk/high reward player or a guy that can quickly get to the NHL. I dont think there's a ton of Russians who are at risk of being held back in Russia, so not sure how many guys like that would fall. But if there is one and he falls, grab him. I also am interested in Brad Lambert. He may be gone by #21, but he seems like the boom/bust player we need to take a chance on.

It really should of been done long ago, Letang too. Despite the respect factor it makes sense to have this stuff figured out from a planning perspective so there's ample time to plan and consider your options for UFA season. So that you can sign other guys still on contract or not ie Rakell

Pens fans are some of the most spoiled fans in sports, but I also can't blame them. What other sports teams have drafted TWO generational talents in back-to-back eras? It's come too easy to us as fans, so they think re-starting is so easy to do.

Fans are in a for a very rude awakening when this all comes to an end. The chances they draft another Sid, Geno, MAF, Letang and Staal all within a few years of each other is not likely to happen again, at least not for a VERY long time. I mean, this has been a perfect storm for an organization for about thirty years when you really think about it.
