It's not we have flattering things to say about many of our ex-goalies. Goalies have a way of staying until you just wish they were gone.

That said, I took some time and was playing with expected goals against numbers today. Taking league average situational save percentages and then applying them to each goalie equivalently. The first kick was just to do it based on 'All' situations, but if the formula were broken down into equivalent PK, PP, and so on situations, it might be interesting - but likely not that divisive from the final results.

It's not always a fair comparison, but it basically says that if a league average goalie faced the same number of HD, MD and LD shots that this goalie did, how would this goalie have fared per game compared to the league average. Shesterkin was the best, at .896 / goals saved above expected / 60. Everyone else listed below is someone that has been rumoured at some point or another to be available (with Campbell and Mrazek in the mix for comparative purposes):

Igor Shesterkin has a GSAx/60 of 0.9
Darcy Kuemper has a GSAx/60 of 0.4
Ville Husso has a GSAx/60 of 0.32
Jonathan Quick has a GSAx/60 of 0.15
Eric Comrie has a GSAx/60 of 0.14
Anthony Stolarz has a GSAx/60 of 0.14
Semyon Varlamov has a GSAx/60 of 0.12
Jack Campbell has a GSAx/60 of 0.1
James Reimer has a GSAx/60 of 0.09
Braden Holtby has a GSAx/60 of 0.01
Jaroslav Halak has a GSAx/60 of 0.01
Matt Murray has a GSAx/60 of 0
Jordan Binnington has a GSAx/60 of -0.09
Marc-Andre Fleury has a GSAx/60 of -0.09
Carter Hart has a GSAx/60 of -0.12
John Gibson has a GSAx/60 of -0.13
Alexandar Georgiev has a GSAx/60 of -0.15
Petr Mrazek has a GSAx/60 of -0.22
Ilya Samsonov has a GSAx/60 of -0.26
Mackenzie Blackwood has a GSAx/60 of -0.27

Comrie looks good, but I'd be concerned about his career 21 NHL starts and last year's 16 starts being his only measurable content.

I have no ability to play FPS games haha. I am incredibly bad at them.

We might get one trade tonight. I expect something to come out of the top 10. Jersey is the most likely team I think to make a splash for a winger. Wouldn't be surprised if they were after Miller.

- Aaron_85

Dude, I used to be incredible at them. But getting old, technically being an alcoholic for over a decade, and also not playing any FPS for about 7 years robbed me of my skill. I'm so bad now. Barely a 1.3KD.

Apparently Ottawa is going hard to trade their pick. Makes absolutely no sense to me why they'd be doing that, since they're still 3 or 4 years away from making the playoffs, but I'll put them as my bet to trade a top 10 pick.

Weekes has been wrong a number of times over the past couple of years in his haste to get things out "first".
- Monkeypunk

He's not very good. Last night on the drive home I heard him say the he doesn't understand why the Leafs have cap issues when they make so much money. He went old school when he threw out that MLSE needs to start caring about the playoffs because they'll make about $7M per home game.

There's a lot of hype for draft trades and it's relatively meh most years
- Aaron_85

The NHL needs to be more like the NBA, they have so much movement in the off season.
Time to remove the hard cap!!!

Don't blame him.

Think he wants to get bought out, so he gets his money, plus a new contract.

The Toronto Maple Leafs are in the mix on Matt Murray and he would agree to a move there. Arizona and Chicago both looking for goalies. #Sens

If that (frank)ing happens, Ottawa better be retaining, and also throw in the 7th overall. 'Cause wow, I do not want Murray.

Awful goalie on an awful contract.

Seems insane to me they'd even consider him

Agreed.

Murray Ottawa retains 50% and 7th overall for Mrazek.

Only way I'd even accept that. And no shot that's gonna happen.

You tell me you aren't doing the whole "shiny new toy" thing but you're willing to trade Nylander to fit Giroux in. Who is on the last legs of his career. This would be old school leafs and most definitely is "shiny new toy" syndrome.

It's fine you like Giroux but willing to sacrifice almost anything to bring him in is a little much. If he truly wants to win then he takes far less money to play on a real competitive team. If he wants money he signs with the senators and that's okay too.

- Aaron_85

He always has the "shiny new toy" syndrome.

But concerning Giroux at 3x6m, that makes no sense to me either. 2 x 4.5m..maybe
However, as Santo suggested, they move out Nylander...BUT... that would only be acceptable if the Nylander trade brought back something that the leafs really covet and that greatly benefited them....not picks and prospects but something like a Chychrun return
