I wonder if Arizona goes with the hometown kid in Gauthier and shakes up the top of the draft.
Pushes one of the top 5 guys down a peg and influences the Sabres to move up for the guy they want.
Only one who really knows is Gerbe hahaha - Pegullaville
I think they are in a great spot just to let the draft fall to them, at 9 and 16. When it gets into the 20's, you know there's going to be guys that you'd love to move up for.

I agree.
I don’t think trading up is really ever a smart move.
Trading up for Peterka may ultimately work out but we shouldn’t get in a habit of doing it.

Probably not, but Bills and Sabres love doing it. I don't see them making 11 picks, so you know a move is coming at some point.

Going to do a real-time, open-thread watch party for the draft on Thursday.
If anyone wants to make their predictions for players taken by the Sabres, or predict trades made, submit them in the comments or via PM and I'll post them in the thread Thursday in advance of the draft.
It's not much but I have a big Sabres sticker that I'll mail to the winner who predicts the most correct outcomes.
3 guesses maximum, please - Hank Balling

Was listening to the 32 Thoughts Podcast
Apparently a local Ottawa guy (Bruce Garrioch) thinks the Sens would have to give up their 1st in order to move Murray’s contract off their books
However, Elliotte Friedman doesn’t think that Ottawa would do that. He think they’re looking for a RW & RD
So my thought was:
*yes, i know this is unlikely, but….
To Buffalo:
Matt Murray, Ottawa’s 1st (pick 7)
To Ottawa:
Victor Olofsson
So Ottawa could get the RW they’re looking for, and he’s a guy they could sign long term. Plus they obviously get rid of Murray, which they wanna do.
Now i don’t think we’d particularly want Murray, but he did put up a .906 save% on a bad Ottawa team this season. Maybe we could squeeze some usefulness out of him?
If not, we bring up UPL & send Murray to the AHL
Not the ideal goaltending situation, but maybe it could work out.
The real reason to take on that contract is to get the 7th pick though, which I’m sure we’d love to have.
I know, it’s a bit crazy. But i just put 2 & 2 together based on what Friedman said on the podcast.
I’d at least call Ottawa & throw the idea out there
Mittelstadt instead of Olofsson could be a possibility as well

Based on my post above where we get pick 7,
my (admittedly) overly hopeful draft would be something like:
Pick7- Jiricek falls
Pick9- Savoie is still around to snag
Ok, those first 2 choices might be a little unlikely as those guys could go a pick or 2 before we’d choose them, but we also do have lots of picks this year & next year to move up a slot or 2 as well
And if we somehow got Jiricek & Savoie, it would give us the freedom to go any direction with the next 2 picks we wanted.
Could even risk the picks on the Russians Yurov & Miroshnichenko
Besides the Russians & other usual suspects u guys talk about, a few other guys I’d like us to consider with picks 16 & 28:
Noah Ostlund (C)
Isaac Howard (W)
Ryan Chesley (RD)

That would be a dream scenario for me ... well, that and if Jiricek fell to 28th..'cause they thought he was Russian....should change his name to Jirikov. |

For weeks, Sabres GM Kevyn Adams awoke at 5 a.m. to watch video of draft prospects. He wants to be sure when he's on the clock with a trio of first-round picks Thursday night.
It's the franchise-building opportunity he wished he had in 2020.
