I could see Paul Byron in Ottawa! A local boy going back home. It wouldn’t involve the Sens first round pick but more dependant on the Habs retaining salary.

There are 4-5 guys I'd try to get rid of before I'd think of being forced to trade Paul Byron.

I like ti-Paul, but the way you phrased it makes it sound like they'd be losing an important part of the team... he's a versatile player and can be really effective but his play hasn't been what it used to, although I guess you could consider that basically everyone on the team played poorly last year, which can sort of skew your perception of individual performances.

With a lots of kids (potentially - depending on if they can ditch a few forwards) joining the team, having a player that can play multiple roles and position is important. Slumps and wanting to protect kids from certain situations and his ability on PK....

Plus I think Byron is a good example of someone taking the talent he has and maximizing his opportunities with hard work... other than that time he decided to get punched in the face.

He also seems like a really good guy/teammate.

I think trading him would not be a good idea, personally, his contract is not that terrible (they ain't using the cash this year anyways), and maybe they flip him at the deadline.

Paul Byron, or his contract, are not a problem on this team.

At least, not one of the top 5-8 problems on this team.

yeah he does seem to be the kind of guy you'd want to stick around and give a mentoring role to if you're rebuilding the team, that's a really good point.

and I also agree that he's definitely not at the top of the list of guys to put on the trading block, unfortunately those that are at the top will likely generate less interest lol

edit: and yes, that time he fought and got a concussion was the dumbest thing ever. tabarnak...

Dadonov Suzuki Caufield
Hoffman Dvorak Gallagher
Drouin Evans Anderson
Byron Poehling Armia

then you add Pitlick and Pezzetta. and maybe Wright!
so yeah, no room for kids unless they unload a few contracts. and I mean like more than 1 or 2.

Drouin Hoffman, Dadonov and Dvorak.... I expect 1-2 of them gone (pref in that order).

Pezzetta is fringe NHLer... he won't be around.

What do you think it would take to unload Drouin?

A pick and another poopty contract?

he only has 1 year left, trading a pick away for that would be kinda pointless.

I said 1 or 2 of them, my pref would be in that order, but we will see who goes... they are going to pick Wright or Slafkovsky, either of which will (likely) be in the NHL next year (even if I don't think they should be), so some people need to GTFO.

True.

I guess he needs to keep up his terrible play for another season, hell they all do for that top 5 pick next year..

yeah at that level I really don't think that players would collectively play like poop to get better draft picks... if they do I'd rather not know about it lol

Hope he gets a good start next season and trade at deadline retaining $$$ and you may get a second round pick…

Drouin as a complement on a good team can be valuable… He is just not a player you can build with…

Pat says it is pointless but I can see a late pick(5th round) and a smaller contract in return to generate some cap space but I think it would be a plan B…

Better keep him and gamble next year he does better…

but there's only 1 year left on his deal, if you have to pay to get rid of him I say keep him for the season, you'll have the cap space the year after without trading away any picks. Gallagher was a 5th rounder, so you never know...

Drouin should get moved at the tdl if he has no value right now

he's played so little recently that this is the only way he could generate interest and increase his value, if he gets points on the board during the season there could be a playoff team or 2 that will be willing to trade for him.
