I have actually wondered if the Pens might try to do something crazy like offer 3-4 1st rounders to get the #1 or #2 pick to draft Wright or Cooley. Trading up to number 4 makes absolutely no sense though.

Pens should just unload everyone of any value and tell Bettman to hook them up in next year's lottery for Bedard. Trade Crosby, Guentzel, Rust, Dumoulin, Marino, Petterson, etc. They'll be perennial contenders again by 2028.

The NHL cant even get player safety right. I doubt Gary could figure out how to rig a draft lottery

About the only thing they could offer that Seattle would want is John Marino. Let's for a second put aside the fact this is highly absurd, John Marino + 21st overall for their 4th overall is possible, maybe another piece.

Still, this would be universally dumb considering Cooley won't fall to #4.

Agree, universally dumb. But if I'm Francis, the deal would be 4th OA for Marino, 21 OA, and Pittsburgh's 1st next year (top 5 protected, perhaps). If Cooley is magically available at #4 on draft day, just how bad does Hextall want him??!! LOL

The Penguins have the 21st pick in the draft....that, and what else on their roster or in their system would get Seattle to even think about such a trade? Malkin and Letang are UFA's. That leaves....Crosby. I am not sure beyond Crosby they have any assets for which I'd make that trade.

Don't all of you realize that the Penguins need a center now that Malkin is leaving? Didn't you also know that the NHL draft is just like the NFL draft in that the player can step right in on day one to replace Malkin's production?...

Also, remember that they might need to somehow add a very very high 2ND 1st round pick to take a right handed defensemen to plug and play right away since, according to Ek, Letang with be signing with either Carolina or Tampa (per his last few posts).

Last I checked Francis is still GM in Seattle. How many times have you ever seen him trade away draft picks? He is famous for hoarding picks. He left Waddell with a ton of draft picks in Carolina. Tough sell to get him to trade his #4 pick.
