How about actually thinking about why some players have struggled. You don't want to look at the entire picture and only look at the bad. If we were discussing veteran experienced players, then maybe your point of view would have some merit. Were not though. We're talking about young developing players.
I guess Lindblom should've just shaken the cancer off and not missed a beat. Your comments are pure ignorance. - MJL

Maybe of you would move past it being an excuse and look at all the variables then maybe you might get in the neighborhood of putting out a reasonable and objective opinion.

Season ending shoulder surgery, ACL tears and major concussions are no joke either. Ditto sports hernias. Yes, some players seemingly bounce right back. Others take more time. It's not an "excuse". |

To be fair, there have been a bunch of changes to the front office. They just didn't fire anyone. Just additions. - MJL
I understand the additions.

Bill, I know we have had our moments but why the hell haven't there been more changes in this FO?
It's downright disturbing. - FlyerFan3260
Comcast aren’t hockey people and the hockey people they listen to (Clarke & Homer) are feeding them bs. It’s either that or Comcast just flat out don’t care about the on ice product. I’m more inclined to believe they’re getting fed bs. |

I have no doubt if the Philadelphia Flyers folded tomorrow and the league had an opportunity to draft our players, at least half the roster would be successful somewhere else. The Flyers are currently being run by bad owners, bad management and Vigneault/Yeo were bad coaches. Most of the players are playing and developing under bad circumstances. - SuperSchennBros

Hart had a .915 save percentage at the All-Star break with a porous team D in front of him. Yes he struggled and was banged up after the break. Still was an overall bright spot from this past season. - bmeltzer
and how many teams did av take to the finals?
how many jack Adam awards did he win?
These are things you put our regularly when people questioned hiring him

Not in his first season. For whatever reasons it fell apart in year 2 and never recovered. - bmeltzer My fear is that the Flyers lacked the horses to execute the system that AV wanted to play and he had no ability to adjust cause he's set in his ways. The worry is that the same thing could happen with Torts. Torts may lose his marbles with this team. The reality is that you can only get so much blood from a stone. |

I really would stay away from DeDrincat. Put me in the camp that does not believe you pay big money to 5'7'' players, no matter how many regular season points they get. Trading for DeBrincat would be the same mistake the Flyers made in trading for Risto, the player pretty much has all the leverage in contract negotiations. The Flyers need to build through the draft IMO and if they are trading prospects or even NHL players, it should be to get another high pick this year or next year so they can get this rebuild going, similar to what the Rangers did. |

Vigneault played a hybrid man to man/overload system. The Flyers repeatedly had issues sorting out the coverages and the transition between the two. When to ply what and who to cover depending on where the puck was. I don't know what Tortorella is going to play here. But in the past he's played something similar to a low zone collapse coverage in the defensive zone. Where they protect the danger areas of the ice and keep the opponent to the perimeter and focus on shot blocking. That could make the Flyers a better defensive team and give up less high danger chances and less goals against. PK still needs to be improved.
The key to remember is that can only go so far. It doesn't matter how well you defend. It's still losing hockey. The key to winning hockey is to defend less and attack more. The more you tilt that to your side. The better a team you will be. |

I wouldn't trade for DeBrincat but it has nothing to do with him being 5'7". That doesn't bother me at all. IF you can play, you can play.
Trading for DeBrincat wouldn't be the same mistake as trading for Ristolainen. DeBrincat is actually a good player. |

Yes, DeBrincat is a good player, but is he the type of player you pay $9M per for? I wouldn't do it. Its not so much that he is small, but he is a small player that if he joins the Flyers becomes part of an already small forward group. Where is the size in this lineup? I think Fletcher talked about this in his last presser, when he mentioned that what both Tampa and Colorado have is tons of speed and skill wrapped up in players with size and strength. Yes Tampa has a highly skilled player like Point, but he is the exception, not the rule. |

This is what I was referring to earlier when I posted that I believed players like Risto will be much better in Tort's system because its a simpler system that plays to Risto's strengths, i.e. covering high danger areas and blocking shots. And yes I agree the best defense is a good offense. |
