Letang for 5 yrs????? Really sounds like 2 yrs too much....You would be better off trading for Burns. Not what you wanna hear? Oh well.
- HenryHockey

Why is Letang at five years too much? He just turned 35, there are plenty of examples of defensemen playing into their forties. Sure, the last two years he won't be playing 25+ minutes a game. You can bet he'll still be playing over 20, and playing well. On second thought, he may still be playing 25 minutes his last two years, then sign another contract.

I would almost rather go with Domingue for > $1M or give Lindburg a look at the backup position. If we have to give Jarry a raise next year we'll be looking at $7-8M for goalies. We're all focused on getting Malkin and Letang back, but that doesn't make us a better team - just the same as last year at best. GMRH hasn't shown anything yet that he has a plan to make this a better team, just rinse and repeat.

First off, if Jarry doesn't get the Pens out of the first round next year, he's not getting anything close to $7M. My guess would be $5M.

Second, just because DeSmith is the NHL backup doesn't make him the number two goalie. If Linberg shows he can play, which he hasn't yet, I believe he was hurt most of last season. He could used as the starter in WBS, then if Jarry gets hurt, Linberg could jump ahead of DeSmith at the NHL level. This is a common practice, at least it used to be.

Anyone catch "Unrivaled" on E60 about hte Wings/Avs rivalry? It was pretty awesome the NHL was great back then.

Pens connection in it was Burke was the NHL is Burke was head of discipline at the time. I really dont know much about him but hes interviewed in it. He comes off as a Richard.

The issue is that the Pens now have $7.6 tied up in just CDS, Carter and Mcginn who all could be replaced with cheaper options on hte roster. Im ok with Malkin coming back and a cheaper rate but the dude needs support. He cant pull a line himself anymore. Every deal will be under a microscope.

And that would somehow be worse than CDS at 1.8m

Nah, no one here expects this Pens team to making playoffs after the next few years, if at all in these years. Those extra two years on contract, if that's indeed what he gets, don't really mean all the much to the overall picture or future years.

Letang set to re-sign @ 3y, $7-8M.

Aston-Reese as an option to get back.

Re-sign Malkin and Rakell already. Heinen or Rodrigues too.

We should trade Dumoulin (or Pettersson) + 21st Pick for a higher pick while getting some cap space.

PO Joseph should be up and playing regularly.

Not sure why an AHL goalie would command more than 1m

Dumo or Petterssons value would allow you to move up about 2 spots.

If the Pens want to move on from Dumo, what makes you think other GMs will give value for him? You may package Dumo and 21 to move BACK in the draft. Most GMs know the Pens are in a bit of a cap crunch and SHOULD use that as leverage.
Sadly, the only GM dumb enough to buy it happens to be in Philly.

That said, with this draft, moving from the late 1st round to the mid 2nd round won't be as drastic as it usually is. Also, if you move Pettersson, then you're stuck with Dumo, who's completely shot.

I wasn't saying Jarry would get $7M, I said we would have $7-8M at the goalie position - hence Jarry getting $5-6M. I agree that other goalies can step in, but was mostly referring to the cap situation. Not very likely Pens spend $1.8M per just to put him in the minors...

We've seen many examples of GMs who value other team's players. Dumoulin and Pettersson have value. You're talking like they blow lol

Pettersson has value, I didn't say otherwise. Dumo is a shell of his former self. He WAS a good complimentary 1st pair defenseman. Right now, he's a 5/6 on a good team. Pettersson is a good 2nd pair defenseman.
