And when the injury bug hits Mrazek for weeks on end... which it will guaranteed .. groin pulls get worse and worse... then what...
I just don't see that as a viable tandem for 60+ games to the TDL. Even with Boston and Fla and perhaps Tampa all being worse next yr. - dozerD10

I don't think I particularly like this move and am a bit miffed the Leafs couldn't find a goaile coach with more of NHL caliber resume as it relates to coaching goalies. I guess there aren't alot out there who are available?
Sanford wasn't a good NHL goalie and he hasn't coached NHL goalies at the NHL level ever - yes he coached Demko when he was in the AHL but that's one guy who had success - is that the coaching or the goalie?
He's coached for 5 years at the AHL level - how does that make him a good hire to coach NHL goalies?
- Cush29
They pulled a Kurt Sauer/Jeff Finger
Saw Curtis and signed contract before he saw it was Sanford, not Joseph 😔 |

This is Peter Mrazek we’re talking about. The guy with the arm long injury sheet, and who injured his groin - three times - last season. |

Once again you nailed it...
As for Stolli the goalie... Verbeek isn't moving him until he figures out what to do with Gibby, if anything...
Dubas needs to trade some secondary pieces and just bite the bullet with Soup. Pay the man and move on.

To be fair, no one is "plugged in" with the Leafs. It' been shut down since Lou got here.
Only thing that's come out was from Chicago last season, and that idiot had to stand up in front of all the GM's and publicly apologise to them. |

Teams know we are desperate for a goalie currently…..and will bend Kyle over
If things start to implode, we can always make a move before the deadline

Yup ...no leaks from Dubie's group unless he wants it to happen.
Usually by now you'd have heard reels of details from Dreger, CJ, Friedman, etc....
Even Friedman is only offering guess-work at this point.

This is how you demotivate the team and end up playing for a wildcard position. You don't want any of that.
It's also how Kyle Dubas would get himself fired - so there are some people who would certainly back the idea.

I was listening to Friedman today and he was talking about what he was hearing about Campbell and contract talks. He said the leafs offered 3 or 4 years at like 2.75, but he said he’s not sure if that was from last year before the season started.
So any info they may get it might not be for the right year. |

Lol, what. They were getting killed with Mrazek in net. They had to go with that combo all year and they just may have missed the playoffs. |

I don’t buy that. There are leaks, some of them on purpose. They could be preparing the fan base for a big *nothing* on the goaltending front.
All of the insiders: Freedge, Kypreos, Johnston - they ALL are hearing and reporting there is nothing going on with the Leafs and Campbell. Clearly, people are talking.
I too think that would be a mistake to go into the season with Mrazek/Woll/Kallgren. |

I agree with most of this, I think they (MLSE as it relates to player movement) are one of the better teams at not letting anything leak out unless they choose to.
I mean I can't recall the last time a big MLSE player move on any of the 4 teams they own occurred and was accurate.
I also agree with your comment about them leaking out info when it suits them and it's 100% strategic and well planned.
I sure hope they don't decide to do nothing and roll with Mer-Spaz-ick and Kalligren /Woll as back up options - I'm in agreement 100% that would be a mistake and not play out well and put them in a place where they drastically have to overpay for goaltending help before or at the TDL.

The NHL is a place where any bad contract becomes precedent setting. The Binnington deal doesn't look so good - St. Louis was actively trying to trade him and re-up Husso last year. Yeah, Binnington was good in the playoffs, but his 18-14-4 record in the regular season wouldn't have gotten him there.
I doubt Seattle is loving their Grubauer deal, and certainly Florida isn't thrilled with Bobrovsky, like Ottawa can't be McLovin' Murray.
The names I hear thrown around: Varlamov, Fleury, Quick, Stolarz, Gibson, Reimer, Blackwood . . . names that live on good years in the past, a couple of recently decent years, or hope/nostalgia.
I see very little in that bucket that dissuades me from trying to get Campbell for $4m or so. If he wants more, we might not be able to - but we have nothing here that is NHL-ready or stable in the crease. Kallgren is not an NHL goalie. Mrazek has to go. If someone can get him to say his name backwards, he'll return to his own dimension.
I mean . . .totally blunt: I have no idea when it comes to goalies who would be good and consistent here. Out of those names above? Probably Varlamov and Reimer are most appealing to me.

'Nothing going on with Campbell' does not equate to they've decided to go with Mrazek and Kallgren. Got to miss a lot of exits to find that turnoff.
Kypreos has the same amount of credibility as random Twitter guy and he's the only one who's ever said anything that doesn't amount to the leafs want to fire Mrazek square into the sun. |
