If you have 20 minutes I found this video from THN with an LA scout helpful. Talks about the draft day war room and his experience as an amateur scout. https://thehockeynews.com...from-a-scouts-perspective

Kirill Kaprizov is reportedly wanted in Russia for buying a military ID in 2017. He is supposedly in the States right now.

While here, he better watch out for the KGB agents with the poison tips on their umbrellas.

This from LeBrun's column today in The Athletic:

Sources also shared Wednesday that teams were starting to put their best trade offers forward to the Blackhawks on Alex DeBrincat, a potential trade that would most likely require a Thursday first-round pick included in it. So there’s a pressure point developing there on that front.

Qualifying offers are due by July 11. Free agency is set for July 13.

Coming soon to the hockey world, teams going to making some serious contract offers at RFA.

Last few years, returns on goalies at the deadline have been middling at best re: Fleury, Lehner
- LAHawk

True, but if the Hawks can get a 3rd or 4th for Varlamov that's a 3rd or 4th round pick they didn't have before.

Why would the Hawks have any interest in qualifying this slow skating, non physical stiff for the purposes of re-signing him at an inflated price? If he takes them to arbitration he probably wins an award of $5M based on his meaningless offensive stats.

Plus, they are already stuck with Tyler Johnson for 2 more years at $5M per.

Down the middle it will be Toews, Johnson, Dach, Reichel and somebody they can grab off another team's scrap heap.

And Strome can walk his dog around Mississauga until another team is stupid enough to pay his asking price.

The over under on games the four you mentioned play is probably 82 total.

Matt Murray is healthy. He’s working out at the rink. Will go on the ice next week. #Sens

- Chunk

Garrioch has an article in the Ottawa Sun stating the Hawks would like to ship out Jones to start the rebuild without his contracts on the books for 8 years but know they’ll likely have to retain money.

Also reported in this article that the Hawks don’t seem to be planning to qualify Strome.

Saw that too… it will be interesting to see if any buzz surrounds Seth Jones or not… not expecting much there, but anything can change the next two weeks.

Been watching Slafkovsky highlights... my goodness what a talent.

Really hoping the Devils pony up to KD's trade demands. Losing 'cat would be quite unfortunate, but the farm is badly void of high-upside talent and desperately needs an infusion.

A Slafkovsky/Dach/Reichel line makes me drool (I'm still very high on Dach).

Yes I would select Slafkovsky with the 2nd overall pick also, but feel the Hawks management would lean towards Cooley .Ya Dach will be fine hope they don't give up on him .

A third viable party would end the US pendulum. In Canada, it was a grassroots effort on the prairies that created the third Canadian viable party, the New Democrats.

Our biggest issue up here is the Hockey Canada scandal

- wizardofi

No it isn't. The biggest issue up here is having that french banana eater in power.

I think Cooley was more of a Stan pick than Slafkovsky is. I think KD will swing up on upside.

Cooley would be a fine addition especially his two-way game matching what KD said they are looking for with their players, but the Hawks are in a position where they need to be swinging for the fences as they've got a long rebuild ahead so they have the patience to wait a couple years and not rush the development of a kid like Slafkovsky who is probably a bit further away than Cooley is.

Why would they get anything in addition to him when their are teams that just need a goalie and won't expect a sweetener to trade for him?

So teams are getting their best and, potentially, final offers together for DeBrincat.

We speculated earlier this week that Montreal’s public lack of a decision on the player they’ll pick first overall may be handicapping the Blackhawks’ ability to make a trade. With the New Jersey Devils owning the second pick and also being one of the top names tied to DeBrincat in rumors, what the Canadiens do at one could very well impact a deal that could be made.

But other teams with top-ten picks, including the Flyers and Ottawa Senators, have also been linked to DeBrincat. And, if they are willing to include their first pick (which the Flyers are reportedly not), a deal could come down soon.

It's been reported that the Devils will just make the pick at 2. The need size on their team and Debrincat has none. We'll see what happens I guess.
