John Klingberg will be hitting the market on July 13. Talks with Stars have been cordial, but there doesn’t appear to be an avenue forward at the moment to keep him in Dallas. |

The Blackhawks have had "lots of talk" about trades with other teams, Kyle Davidson says.
"It's really distilled down to a few teams the last little while, because they know what they want, so we'll see if it arises to the level of getting something done." |

Interesting how a trade involving Seth Jones would potentially require retained salary. Yet, at say $7.5M per year I feel no one would have an issue with him. - zm333
I don't have an issue with the 9.5 salary just what they gave up at the time for it.
Maybe its a slight overpay but its not egregious. 7.5 would be a bargain IMO. |

He's 29 now I think and 30 when the season starts. Some team will offer him close to what he wants but throwing money and term at a tall lanky guy turning 30 seems like the Brent Seabrook mistake all over again. |

Which is likely why Dallas moved on. I'm guessing they wouldn't give him the term. I pray that GM's will get wise and stop signing older players to 7-8 year deals. They rarely if ever work out. |

Kyle Davidson said the Blackhawks will get a "much better handle" on their goaltending plan for next season over the next 48 hours. |

. So I totally understand why Juraj Slafkovsky is so attractive, and like Dacher, you say SIZE, feet at that SIZE?, and we can wait if he doesn't put it all together right away.
but big guys with feet well there are only so many of them four drafts back.
same goes for Quinton Byfield, Kaapo Kakko, and Jesperi Kotkaniemi a centre over wing Brady Tkachuk.
- wiz1901
The whole post is excellent but wanna zero in on the size/great feet/silky hands/shot package. It's just so rare that GM's, scouts and fans alike go gaga over that rare player. Think I read there were only 4 NHL players last yr that were heavier than Slafkovsky. Then you watch film on the guy and say, Holy Jesus.
We all remember what a healthy Bickell looked like in the playoffs. Pure unstoppable beast. Nobody on the ice like him nobody can stop him .... Guys like Panik and Perlini will get look after look cuz they have that rare package.
I do think the Hawks and NJ will deal. NJ knows how rare it is to get a chance at a 24 yr old who can/has/will pop for 40, play both ways, go to dirty areas, play with an edge, who will fight guys much bigger to stick up for a mate, good in the locker room, a kid who will wear a letter. .... Kid is not a one trick pony. ....
NJ knows they are close, has a top 5-6 prospect system and have stunk for a long while. They don't need prospects anymore per say they need to use their prospects/picks to get that difference maker and a 24 yr old Dcat is that guy as opposed to say Johnny Hockey at 28 or the Kadri's at 30 yrs old.
KD knows the #2 pick is far greater in value than say Philly's #5 or OTT's #7 as a result I think his price comes down, and should, as the process gets to zero hour. I do think the thing ends up looking like the #2, Holtz and either next yrs 2nd rd pick or a roster player like Sarangovich a big 24 yr old that can fly and has a motor. ...... Something like that and add NJ might have interest in Murphy and the deal gets bigger.
I was all in for Slafkovsky to the Hawks at #2 but have changed to Cooley unless the Hockey Gods have Wright available for CHI. I love Slaf and believe his ceiling is the highest in the draft but his floor is lower than say Cooley's or Wright's. With a total rebuild at #2 I wanna hit a double and leg out a triple instead of swing for the grand slam. Maybe at #20 swing for a grand slam with Lambert, Mirachenko or any Russian that falls 10-15 spots but not at #2 ...... Again I ask in 5-6 yrs and 23-24 yr old Cooley is a legit top 6 C at 70-75 pts, Holtz is a 24-25 yr old 65 pt 30-35 goal guy, not at all unreasonable expectations, and a swing in the 2nd rd of a deep 2023 draft is that worth it for Dcat?
Then the unknowns. Why wouldn't Jarmo, CAR, ANA, WSH, BUF, LA along with PHI, NJ and OTT be interested in Dcat? I do think however the best match for both sides is NJ. They both have what the other side needs and the timing is perfect. |

I have sneaking feeling Detroit comes in with an offer Anaheim is another team that could put a serious package together 10 and 22 ++ |

Forgot to add DET to the possibilities. They seem to be just behind NJ their rebuild process but fit for adding Dcat...... Even if the timing is not perfect how often does a player with Dcat's resume at 24 yrs old become available? That is the biggest takeaway to this whole thing and GM's know that. If ever there was a situation where a GM can justify an overpay this is one of them.
Hopefully 4-5-7 GM's can put together a proposal to take a swing and in theory that drives the price up or at least the urgency of potential suitors.

The longer this goes the more I think a team like the Ducks will come in and offer their #1 2022 (10 overall), 2 2nd round 2023 (theirs and Boston's) and Perrault for DCat. And to be honest, I would not be that upset with that. Would love to get more, but thinking that is as good as it gets. Thoughts?

If the Ducks were sellers at the trade deadline last year, no way they make this offer
Yzerman give up futures for a player, no way, he was willing to walk away from Stamkos.

Kate Madigan named Assistant GM for the Devils. Maybe she and Meghan Hunter can get together and work out the parameters of a Debrincat trade. Get some women involved and not some guys who are trying to win the biggest d*** contest. LOL. - boilermaker100
Lori Lightfoot already won that contest!

Bruce Garrioch is the 'insider' in Ottawa. The Sens feed him a couple of bones once in a while because they want media coverage from the Ottawa Sun. But when it comes to anything big, he never breaks the story.
Seravelli is OK. But he isn't telling anybody anything when he says ADB will be gone eventually. |

None of these “insiders” know anything until moments before an official announcement is imminent so I don’t find much point in getting overly concerned about ADB or Strome or anyone else. But I’d like to see KD try to pick up as many draft picks as possible preferably in the first and second rounds over the next two or three years bY making trades or providing cap relief to other teams. One example are the Leaves, they are in dire need of cap space. Take a bad contract or two ie: Mrazek and or Kerfoot and a first for the rights to Strome, a used cup and a half eaten birthday cake. |

Wouldn't it just be delightful and hilarious if teams like Montreal (14 picks in this year's draft) and Chicago or Anaheim or Arizona offer sheeted the hell out of the Leaf's young cheap players like Sandin and Engvall - RFA's they can't afford to offer much in salary increases to.
