Just going by his agents comments ...he had zero interest in leaving and was still trying to digest what Brisbois (and ownership/mngmnt) had said to him. It was thrust on him ...he laid down on the sword.
At that point ...he got to pick his next best option. Josi is nice ...but Nashville isn't winning anything with Duchene and Johnson as their big $$. - The Law
I haven't heard what the agent said regarding the trade. |

I do respect him trying to cash in here however, I dont think he's worth that to the leafs or any team. Maybe Seattle will overpay or Anaheim. |

Because you could have gotten a top-4 dman for mustache clippings.
Yeah, McD is also overpaid and old. Despite that, he's got enough gas in the tank for at least one or two more good seasons. Four is a stretch. Leafs could use a guy like McD. By taking Myers back, Tampa has essentially retained salary. I bet Dubas could have swung a deal to get Tampa to retain. If after becoming a Leaf, McD shatters his foot blocking a shot, you send him to Robidas Island.
But in all seriousness, I was kidding around about Dubas because he would have had to give more than a 7th and a bag of facial hair clippings. And he would be right to pass on McD under real circumstances and not a forum pooppost trade. - GalacticStone
it would of been Holl for McD. |

On pending UFA winger Ilya Mikheyev, my understanding is that if he hits the open market, his agent Dan Milstein would be looking for a multi-year deal in the $4.75 M AAV to $5.5 M AAV range...

A similar leaf trade would be Holl and a prospect. However the leafs don't have the additional 4.75 million in space to accommodate that on top of replacing Holl. Also I think McD is a LD so who is he pushing out of the line up? Or flip him to the right side i guess.
I feel the money would be better spent elsewhere.
Also, multiple variables we dont know would have had to occur. Would McD waive for Toronto? Does Tampa like Holl? Does Tampa even want to deal with Dubas or within division? - Aaron_85
It’s the four years that are the problem. $6.75 for whatever is left of him when Leafs are in the process of re-signing Matthews, Marner, Nylander. You can only trade Mrazek so many times. |

exactly.
he will be not missing any $$ compared to what he is getting in Tampa via taxation. - dmnted
I wouldnt want 3-4 more years of him at 6m+ on the leafs.
But its nice to see tampa unloads a bad contract for almost nothing again.
Ugh. |

I dont get why other teams just easily help them out with cap issues. - senstroll
It's (frank)ing insane, really. And it keeps happening.
The league helps them enough. Really need other teams to stop it, too. |

Doubt it. He needs to get to free agency to drive the Mik Market into a frenzy. |

I thought it was because Yzerman had some good relationships but its just continued. To be fair to Nashville, aside from the length of the contract, they gave nothing up to get McD. |

Really hope there is a team with mutual interest from Muzzin and said team. While Muzzin is still capable of being a good top 4 D...Would rather keep Sandin and have the cap space.
Will be interesting. |

Do we like Quick at 2.8M?
His actual salary is 2.5M so there would be no issues in getting another team to retain half for LA for cheap.
Muzzin to LA
Quick to Toronto at 2.8M
Either Kings retain or another team does
2.8M is a pretty good number for Quick IMO, not going to get a better goalie for cheaper but would need another for a tandem |

If he was a righty, maybe....but Tampa is retooling on the fly. They may sacrifice this year, for the ability to win the Cup again for a number of years. Tampa would never trade him to the Leafs, because he'd be in the division for the next 4 year and would strengthen an opponent. Leafs need to sign Boosh and trade Sandin and Muzzin. Then they can add a quality left shooting defender.
One other item, maybe the Leafs should be trying to re-acquire Connor Brown. He'd be a welcomed 3rd line threat to balance out the attack. He is a free agent, so maybe it's time to bring him home. That's a player that Tampa would have interest in, so let's beat them to the punch for a change. He's better than Kerfoot.

They probably buy out Myers to get that 600K cap relief this season. |
