That might be the third worst return in a Ryan McDonagh trade I’ve ever seen

Sounds like TB is not buying out Myers

Ek is on crack. TB has zero interest in Letang. Briesbois just got rid of one overpaid d-man who is on the wrong side of the aging curve. He certainly doesn't want to do it all over again with Letang. Whoever pays Letang is going to overpay, like Karlsson.

Now see what has happened? I dangled McD yesterday for a 7th and a bag of Matthews stache clippings. Nashville jumped in with a mishmash of a deal and got him. Dubas whiffed on that one.

Edit : Myers is a throwaway and potential reclamation project. Briesbois will assess him and likely buy him out or trade him for beard clippings.

Help me understand your reasoning. How exactly did Dubas whiff on not jumping on grabbing the overpaid d-man on the wrong side of the ageing curve that Brisbois just dumped?

I dont get why other teams just easily help them out with cap issues.

Stache clippings were a deal breaker.

Agreed although this one is a little more sensible. McD still looked the part of a top4 minute muncher and the Preds gave them nothing to get him.

Wonder what Brisbois said to McD to get him to agree? He and his agent are pissed but still agreed.

Jedi mind trick poop ...

No state tax right where he was. Maybe Preds promised he could play with Josi

No ...the spin would have been that if he didn't agree the Bolts would have to chop the team up by moving other guys. And that they'd have no chance to win unless he'd agree to be moved. They guilt tripped him. It was him ...or a bunch of his buddies.
His agent made it sound like that.

Or less heroically, if he stays he probably ends up playing with Bogo. Your choices are Josi or Bogo. He gets to be a hero and play with one of the best D-men in the league.

Just going by his agents comments ...he had zero interest in leaving and was still trying to digest what Brisbois (and ownership/mngmnt) had said to him. It was thrust on him ...he laid down on the sword.

At that point ...he got to pick his next best option. Josi is nice ...but Nashville isn't winning anything with Duchene and Johnson as their big $$.

Because you could have gotten a top-4 dman for mustache clippings.

Yeah, McD is also overpaid and old. Despite that, he's got enough gas in the tank for at least one or two more good seasons. Four is a stretch. Leafs could use a guy like McD. By taking Myers back, Tampa has essentially retained salary. I bet Dubas could have swung a deal to get Tampa to retain. If after becoming a Leaf, McD shatters his foot blocking a shot, you send him to Robidas Island.

But in all seriousness, I was kidding around about Dubas because he would have had to give more than a 7th and a bag of facial hair clippings. And he would be right to pass on McD under real circumstances and not a forum pooppost trade.

On pending UFA winger Ilya Mikheyev, my understanding is that if he hits the open market, his agent Dan Milstein would be looking for a multi-year deal in the $4.75 M AAV to $5.5 M AAV range...

A similar leaf trade would be Holl and a prospect. However the leafs don't have the additional 4.75 million in space to accommodate that on top of replacing Holl. Also I think McD is a LD so who is he pushing out of the line up? Or flip him to the right side i guess.

I feel the money would be better spent elsewhere.

Also, multiple variables we dont know would have had to occur. Would McD waive for Toronto? Does Tampa like Holl? Does Tampa even want to deal with Dubas or within division?

exactly.

he will be not missing any $$ compared to what he is getting in Tampa via taxation.
