I am starting to have some faith in the fact that it will be a busy off-season for Chevy. Lots of roumour surrounding Scheifele, Dubois, Wheeler and Dillon these last few days
- Jacob Billington

Chevy could get very busy over the next week or so as we approach the draft and during the draft. Lets not forget that a guy like Perfetti will be very much in the picture next season, so with Dylan Samberg. Perfetti is smart and defensively responsible and might thrive under Bowness. Gustaffson and Barron might be in the picture as well. Samberg, and likely Heinola , frees up room for trading a Dman or two.

If Chevy can get Statsny to resign for one more year then yes, we will see guys like Wheeler and maybe Dubios or Scheifele traded. I expect Dillon will be gone. I also hope Nate Schmidt is traded as well. You could also see Vesalainen on the move. Lots of assets to move up in the draft and take a shot a NJ's #2 pick.

And see how that trade turned out. That GM has been canned since. Because a stupid trade was made, we should do another one? Really? You think they hired new guys to make the same mistakes?

If your trade makes sense, we'll happily get the French speaking one, but you are asking a signed younger player with a better ceiling in a 1v1 trade. Have you seen Suzuki's stats after St. Louis became coach? 34 pts in 37 games (0,92 pts/gm), Dubois had 27 pts over 39 games in that same time frame (0,69 pts/gm), which is basically his career average (0,66 pts/gm). Point is, Dubois has been and will be a 60 pts/season player and Suzuki could become a 70 pts/season player or more if he keeps getting better. He's also signed. And younger. And you want him straight up? Like, are you being deliberately obtuse?

- YodaOldBoy

What was the Quality of Competition like for Suzuki compared to PLD? I am thinking that he may have had an increase in production mostly due to the fact that the Habs were eliminated from playoff contention and some of the pressure to perform was off. Jets were theoretically still in the playoff hunt until about 10 games to go. You are also attributing much of Suzuki’s success to St. Louis as coach. If its coaching that made that much of a difference, then PLD would work just fine in that market. He also brings the plus of being able to speak French.

Let’s be honest, history is the best predictor of the future.

Chevy is not doing anything this offseason besides possibly extending PLD. We will hear his classic speech after the draft of “Wanting to do something, but the price was to high” thing he says year after year after year…….

I think the value is similar, but I don't think there is any chance Montreal trades Suzuki for Dubois. Why would they? He is their 1C, it would be a lateral move if anything, and Suzuki is already signed to a pretty decent contract. Maybe a bit more that I would like as a Habs fan, but certainly not close to a bad deal or anything. If the Habs wanted to get Dubois as the 1B behind Suzuki it would likely be a mix of picks and roster players. They are rebuilding, they dont want to give up what Winnipeg wants. I don't see the fit as trade partners, personally
- Jacob Billington

As for a trade candidate I still like the idea of another trade with the Rangers. Either Chytil or Lafrenniere plus a pick, etc would be excellent acquisitions for a guy like Dubios. Either trade of course would require much more than just one of the players.

IMO, as you say, the Habs are not good trading partners.

Can't see them trading Suzuki for PLD with Suzuki having the long term contract, as stated here before. Other than Romanov and Caufield (who I don't see then trading), who else do they have to deal that we would want? The 25th pick?

No, don't see the Hans as a trading partner! The Rangers and Canes - yes!

Chevy seems to openly talk about Heinola more than Samberg. I hope both are in the line up day one.

I think Stastny and Wheeler were two peas in a pod last year and were definitely on the same side with whatever locker room division and arguments were going on. If wheeler is getting moved, which I think he is, there is also no chance Stastny is even offered a contract. Have to repair room.

Stastny does not sign if Wheeler is moving.

Dubois not going anywhere. He is betting on himself and likely does not want to do what Scheifele did - sign long term at an undervalued price.

I was underwhelmed by the hire. I do think though that who Bowness chooses as assistant coaches should be telling. I am thinking that one of the assistant coaches that is hired is the guy that True North really wanted. Most likely want that coach to be mentored under Bowness for a year or two prior to taking the reigns.

If you go on the Dallas Stars chat forums or read the Star bloggers, none of them have a good thing to say about Bowness.

That's kind of "normal" for most former coaches isn't it?

I don't think Stastny will be back regardless of what Wheeler does. At least I hope nit - get some younger "wheels" in there!

Anyone have guesses on who the Jets might draft with their 14th and 30th picks?

I am going to go out a limb and with the 14th pick, think they'll take one of four players:
1. Marco Kasper (C)
2. Frank Nazar (LW)
3. Juri Kulich (C)
4. Connor Geekie (C)
I am hoping Kulich TBH!

30th pick:
- will Liam Ohgren (RW) still be there?
- Will Noah Ostlund (C) still be there?
- Will the Jets trade down and take a flyer on a kid like C Rieger Lorentz (lower rated)?

Or will the Jets trade both picks to NJ - maybe add a sweetener, if need be, and take C Logan Cooley? Interesting times!

Takes the team to the cup and gets no love. In winnipeg, one trip to final four got Maurice 4 more years that they shouldn’t have.

Fan bases will never agree on a coach, unless your Tampa or Avs right now.

I usually agree with a lot of what mike Johnson says and he had nothing but good things to say. It’s a two year deal and I’m glad it’s not Vincent. I wasnt happy with the choice but wil give him a chance

My hopes for 14 are Mateychuk, Nazar, Kasper. But hoping for Mateychuk,

For 30, unless someone like ohgren or Geekie fall, I’d trade it to AriZona who have 5 second rounders, try and get three of them lol

Like Mateychuk too and he will probably still be on board at 14. But my problem here is that he is a LD. Perhaps he plays the RH side, don't know.

Thinking Geekie may fall but how far? Ohgren good choice if there. Like your idea with the Arizona trade. The Habs have umpteen choices as well.

Dubois is not a problem. He has stated that he wants to “wait and see” what direction the Jets are headed in prior to signing long-term.

With that in mind rumours about him wanting to play in Montreal have been there since he played in Columbus. I still think Nick Suzuki for PLD makes sense to both teams. PLD would not have a problem with the Canadiens rebuilding, whereas his patience may be short in Winnipeg.

Where did Dubois say that about 'wanting to see what direction the Jets are headed in before he signs long term??

That’s what I heard someone in the media say. Too bad its not in print or else I would have posted the article on here. I am assuming that they have more contact with the players than people like you and I do.

If all the Coyotes want is a first round draft pick for Chychrun, the Jets should be all-in on that one. We could also include Blake Wheeler as part of that deal. His actual salary is much lower than his actual cap hit, which is something the Coyotes would like.

It would also be going full circle for Blake. He would be going back to the team that drafted him. He would be reunified with Ladd and Little. He would also have the opportunity to play with his best friend Phil Kessel again.

Win-win situation!

it was reported Columbus offered the 12th overall and zona said no, it keeps getting reported they are looking for the equivalent of 4 first rounders. i dont understand the chychrun hype, he is good but not nearly as good as the asking price

Yeah I didn't think he did.

I think it's funny the rope he's been given by a lot of fans, most Jets have been run out of town with pitchforks ablaze if they give any hint of wanting out or if there's rumors that they might want to play elsewhere but with Dubois its a "negotiating tactic"... lol

Personally I think what Dubois did was WAY worse than Scheifele's comments.

I hope PLD is traded tomorrow.

Agree, I would trade him tomorrow, or ASAP. Get the best package possible and let's go with some new guys. Need some young guys with legs and desire to compete!

Rangers, Canes (Necas+), perhaps Kings, NJ might be best possibility. Trade to NJ, that includes the 2nd overall pick coming back in the package, might be worth looking at.
