That's why I like Nemec, I think he's gonna make his partners look good discreetly and not get paid the ultra bucks. They might need to replace the partners from time to time as THEY get the big bucks but it should still be manageable.

hey, with all their picks maybe the habs will manage to make a trade and grab him, who knows...

When you have second line players, playing first line minutes (as you do not have anything better), you tend to play those second line players first line money... same for 3rd liners playing second and 4th playing 3rd line...

The Habs have chosen to pay those players, rather than let them walk, because they were so afraid of becoming a bad team / no playoff team.

And in doing so, they became what they were trying to avoid.

That is why I find it mind boggling when it came to Markov, Radulov, Danault, etc... but gave big money to lesser deserving players.

The non-signing of those 3 seemed like bergevin ego decisions

Bergevin left a huge mess, no doubt about it.

I think Hughes made a few good trades already, but this will take a while. After the trade Tampa just made, I think Petry will stay here for a while. They would have to replace him anyway.

He does look great. It's just that he doesn't look like McDavid whom he had a similar rookie season to as prestigious 15 year old exemption status players. He killed the U18's and looked like he was going to be a star again in the U20's.

Yeah I haven't seen a lot of him but most of the issue seems to be he doesn't really dazzle.

Yeah, not only with NHL contracts, but holes in the development pipeline.

That is why I think it is more like a 3-4-5 year turnaround than a 2 year turn around.

I really like what HuGo have done so far, and actually am pretty excited where this is going, but make no mistake, it is gonna be a couple of more frustrating years (at least).

EDIT: I think Petry is a deadline deal. Could be wrong.

Danault didn't thank Bergevin for trying to underpay him, and he was having fun in press conferences. That's a big no-no.

And yet I see a lot of people not wanting him before the Oilers' 2nd rounder, where he won't make it.

The earlier we trade him, the higher the chances he sinks the team we traded him to and we get a lottery pick tho

I still feel he will not ultimately be traded, but (if it were to happen) I am not sure the Habs do it this summer... things that could change during the season that they feel some of the kids are progressing really fast and they want them on the NHL roster.

Trading Petry means also having to replace Petry. At this point, that is why I am not sure it makes sense to trade him now.

haha... I definitely wanted him gone as soon as possible with the way he played last season, but chances are he'll be closer to his former self next year, I'd be really surprised if his game had permanently fallen off the rails like that. so even if he isn't traded right away he'll probably be generating interest from other teams during the season.

I think that's what Hughes was mentioning, that he'd be looking to acquire a veteran dman if Petry was traded, which is easier said than done.
