The player is worth that contract. He is good at everything. He is one of a dozen centers that are extremely well rounded.

His contract will not end well in my opinion and have several early years of excuses. I hope I'm wrong and he returns to his Selke form

Possible, but the advanced stats show that, despite being hurt for a portion of his playing time this past season, he and Giroux were heads and shoulders better than the rest of the team. Not even close, really.

You are correct that there is some risk with the contract. But that is the case in most contracts with talented players. But I think his contract will age well. He depends on his hockey smarts and not high end speed. He is like a Bassard guy. They tend to age well.

I will say that I’m an optimist and I know this. So take my opinion lightly.

I think guys like Coots end up with team friendly deals. They get under valued because so much depends on points when players are up for contracts. Not that the other things don’t have any value when contract talks begin. I just think big number guys seem to have the riskiest contracts. But guys like Bassard are the ones that who can really have an impact on a season. Sorry board but I like the 200 foot players that many on here don’t like much. Not saying I don’t like a Mitch M. But I just value a Bassard type also.

I want Ellis on LTIR so we can get Dumba (The Fletch Connection, also teammate of Debrincat in Portland) or possibly a Chychrun for JVR+ trade.

We did make a big push for Debrincat - a big offer is on the table.

I’m told there is absolutely a chance we end up with Johnny AND Debrincat before the season starts if the right moves could be made.

Now that Fiala is gone, I think Dumba will stay in Minny. They made him a captain. He’s popular with his teammates and he gets along with everyone. He may even help the team out with his next contract in the spirit of Hartman.

If that’s the case, given that we have LTIR to spend (Ellis) and Chychrun’s dad was a Flyer and Coyotes can handle the JVR cap hit - I’d say we offer JVR + a pick/prospect for Chychrun and hopefully still have the assets for Debrincat (this years 1st, 2024 first, TK and a prospect) and, given the theoretical new cap space by moving JVR, enough money for Johnny Hockey as a UFA

The Yotes wanted at least the equivalent of 3 1st round picks at the TDL and their GM said recently that he doesn’t think he gets moved now because no one is talking to them now.

All the more reason for them to go all in on JG and Debrincat - if there’s no D options To replace Ellis

If Nashville gives up on a D man there’s not much helping him. He has all the tools but the smarts just aren’t there.
- hereticpride

Nothing to do with smarts. That's nonsense. He had no issues with smarts or hockey IQ all through his development into the NHL. The Flyers ruined him and destroyed his confidence. Playing on a team with no defensive structure and catastrophic breakdowns. TB knows the tools are there but he just has to be "retooled" to get his confidence back.

Are you kidding me? Let’s start with the hockey IQ. First of all, the jump from a Dman to junior to the NHL is ten fold. I personally questioned his IQ on here and MJL and a few others said it was the system. Year later he’s in the AHL, what happened to Nashville breeds defenseman and he’s going to flourish? News flash for ya, when an opposing forward is on the wall and your Dman is rimming the puck into his skates, it’s not the system, the game is too fast for the kid. He had half a good season and people thought he was gods gift.

Is there a reason to? They can dip into Seabrook's LTIR to sign Palat. Otherwise their roster is pretty set.
- Tomahawk

I guess if they feel they can make the team better than they have the option. I immediately figured it was to buy him out and gain additional space so I was surprised to read the GMs comments.

Wow, this is ridiculous. The kid was fast tracking from the AHL into the NHL. His hockey IQ never questioned. All of a sudden after playing on a crap team that hung it's defenseman out to dry. A player who was basically an NHL rookie was give too much responsibility and asked to play a role he was not ready for. When most rookie defenseman that are not blue chip prospects are breaking in on the 3rd pair with a vet. A defenseman is rimming the puck up the wall into a puck battle when he has no where else to go with the puck. That's what defenseman are taught to do in that situation. Keep the puck out of the middle of the ice and away from the net and further from the net. Having to constantly choose which breakdown to try and cover as well as his own mistakes. Developing as an NHL defenseman is hard enough. Almost impossible in that environment. It's affected defenseman better than Myers. He may never recover his confidence and find his game but the hockey IQ thing is nonsense.

Please tell me this isn't all you've got.

When he struggles with Tampa and then ends up elsewhere or the AHL again who’s fault will it be?

How does Sanheim figure it out? Is he Bobby Orr or just a Dman with a brain?

It's worse than I thought. Myers has played 142 NHL games. Sanheim 335. Sanheim has had his share of struggles. Has he not? It takes time.

According to TASS, the would be @NHLFlyers goalie Ivan Fedotov will be sent to serve on Novaya Zemlya, an Arctic outpost. This, without a doubt, has been arranged by CSKA owner Igor Sechin, Putin's close friend, as retaliation for wanting to leave the KHL.

I don't know what you watch, but Myers absolutely has a problem with hockey IQ. The kid looked totally baffled most nights. He is big and can skate well for a big man, but if the brain doesn't match the physical skills it's all for naught. Teams will always take a chance on him because of his physical attributes, but man he looks lost when it comes to thinking the game. Nashville obviously had seen enough and they are the kings of churning out quality NHL defensemen. You have lost me on this one. Thanks!

Maybe we can have a few of them form like Voltron and become DeBrinKinson and get one player that’s like 8 feet tall
