But why go to Ottawa or NJ if the teams suck like the Blackhawks. Then you got to move your family away to another part of the country or different country. Moving your kid away from a support system you trust. Cat wins if he stays healthy and gets paid his next contract. Winning a Cup would be gravy but unfortunately not every player wins a Cup. Just look at Perry trying to win one more and he's been on the losing end of 3 finals in a row.

I know he doesn't have a choice if he's traded but I'm sure Cat is thinking might as well stay here instead of uprooting my family for a team that is in the same situation.

Teams with a solid young talent pool that should take a step forward with the right veteran additions.

Way different position then the Hawks who are still trending down.

I for one believe KD thinks he can build around Cat.

He's dangling Cat to see if any fool is willing to pay his price, which is just a smart business move.

KD has the best of both worlds, he can trade for picks and players to layer the rebuild even greater or he can hold on to a 40 goal scorer and build around him because he's young enough.

Honestly you should save those big words ( apoplectic ) for Paul, I'm just an ordinary average guy

I thought you incorrectly spelled "apologetically" like I might have.

Yeah, I hated to have to look it up....

They suck but they have been sucking at the lower more valuable prospects draft pool, so they have plenty in their rebuild cupboards, but a scorer, a true NHL scorer, not a developing kid like Batherson, Hughes brothers, Nico Hischier, but and gun.

Thise teams would be saying the future is now, and we want to get better now, slowly wasn't getting us there.

, it might be time for me to speculate on the Philly return since that
may signal a bigger trade for both teams.

Flyers have one first rounder in next two drafts, and their own and Florida’s in 2024. They do ntot have a 2nd rounder until 2024 either.

- wiz1901

An FYI if you are going thru scenarios with Philly. They have 1st rd picks in 2022, 2023 and two 1sts in 2024, one is Floridas. No 2nd rd picks the next 2 yrs. https://www.capfriendly.com/teams/flyers

We don't need rumors to know Philly is kicking around about a 2 time 40 goal scorer who is 24. Been looking their roster over for a couple weeks. Not sure I see a fantastic fit but the more in on the bidding the higher the price.

IMO Jersey is the best fit cuz they have prospects and the #2 overall who I'd guess the Hawks would use on Cooley unless MTL gets nuts and passes on Wright.

Lightning trade Ryan McDonagh to Predators for Philippe Myers and Grant Mismash.

According to reports, no salary retention on McDonagh. Bolts expected to buy out Myers where the team gets a $600K+ credit in 2022-23 then a $600K+ cap hit in 2023-24.

NJ and Philadelphia though have some options besides Debrincat.

1. Gaudreau is thinking about the supposed 8x9.5M offer from Calgary and may want to test the UFA market. A similar offer from another team would have to be 7x11M. Would he take a discount to come home to NJ or Philly? Still would cost the Devils or Flyers probably 7x10M.

2. I read where the Devils are interested in Slafkovsky, but the Habs are playing their pick close to the vest and hinted they may take him. Will there be a trade at the draft while NJ is on the clock if Slafkovsky is picked 1st?

A lot of balls in the air.

I wonder if Wright is available at #2 that's when KD lowers his asking price for Dcat? ........ Gaudreau is almost redundant for NJ. Smallish skill like Hughes and Bratt although I'm sure they'd make it work. Dcat is no giant but plays much bigger than he is plus he's 4 yrs younger than Johnny Hockey.

Just like Fiala, Forsberg as well as Gaudreau, Laine, Miller, and to a certain extent Malkin, Hoffman, E Kane, and Kadri may impact whether DeBrincat gets traded and where.

My only argument would be if let's say in some magical world they were willing to give up Sanderson and 3 firsts, doesn't that essentially screw over the future on Ottawa? Can any team who's trying to build something can afford that price, LA quickly shifted gears when they heard the price tag?

It a team is willing to mortgage their future for ADB then more power to them. I wouldn’t trade DeBrincate unless they get a massive haul in return. We’re all on the same page about that. Teams like NJ and Ottawa have been losing for a while and have stock-piled picks & prospects. They can afford to give up a king’s random for a 24 year old 40 goal scorer.

If Kane is not his linemate, does Cat consistently hit 30?

I was thinking that also ,I would not like to see the price drop ,but depending on who the Hawks scouts are looking at it may .Not just for the 2nd overall pick but for later in the draft maybe also . I like that Geekie kid a little later in the draft .Never know JD could revisit the other offer he earlier rejected. Sounds like all the cards are on the table .

For all the ‘never draft a goalie in the 1st round’ adherents, NHL.com just redrafted 2012, and 3 of the 1st 9 picks were goalies.

1 EDM Vasilevskiy
2 CBJ Filip Forsberg
3 MTL Jacob Slavin
4 NYI Taravainen
5 TOR Tom Wilson
6 ANA Morgan Reilly
7 MiN Tomas Hertl
8 PIT Hellebuyck

I'm guessing if Sanderson is included, the picks part of the trade would drop, something like a 1st this year, and a second next year.

Maybe a first this and next if they took Murray no retention.
