Agreed. But I like that everybody when talking about Slaf and his mediocre liiga numbers carefully gorgets that he was great in their playoff run where he was on their 2nd line instead of the 4th and that his U20 numbers are up there with some of the best draft eligible Finns

He's a good player, that's why he'll be drafted top 3, but I still think the Habs need Wright more.

No one said he sucks. I'll welcome him with open arms if he's Hughes pick.

He's just not the BPA, imho.

Picking Slafkovsky 1st overall looks like swinging for the fences in my opinion. I have no doubt in my mind that Wright will become a great player in this league.

Maybe Slafkovsky becomes better, but I would go for the safe bet here.

And for the (frank)ing center.

This reminds me of the Sean Coutourier draft. He was forecast to be the number 1 pick for a very long time. He stumbled over the last few months and dropped to #7 by draft day.

Not saying Wright and Couturier are comparable. But, as someone noted earlier, the boredom factor influences commentary when someone leads the draft for multiple years.

When Couturier dropped out of the #1 projections it happened at after the WJC and long before final lists were put together.

I think this is just smoke. Montreal will take Wright.

The possible alternative to taking Wright is the intriguing story suggesting that the Rangers are open to moving Lafrenierre. It would an absolute bomb if Hughes could parlay the #1 pick with a few other assets and acquire both PLD and Lafrenniere.

I remember the Couturier year and I had a similar thought, even fi Wright's drop isn't as big as Couturier's (which was nonsense at the time).

As for the "bomb" thing you're suggesting, that's too crazy a scenario for a team trying to finally make the slow rebuild it needs.
