Lead by example on the ice. Be a conduit between the coaches and players. Team spokesman on the ice with the officials. Be available to the media. Help new and young players acclimate to a new team and other team related situations.

Guy seems like a total Diva, not a guy I’d pay top dollar for. Looks like the deal is just under 8M, so not too bad actually. Kings have really rebounded nicely. |

Extremely skilled one on one puckhandling superb 👌skating ⛸️ (Wish flyers had can-openers like that) Only downside must be the height. I understand Kings went all in here. |

Downside is his D and high risk plays and he doesn’t always show up. But when he does, he can be a beast.

So, if they got out of that cap hit, who got in on it ... are you saying that Chuckie ended up on the wrong end of this too? - iamscore2day

Based on the snippet of the Fletcher press conference I saw from today on Ryan Ellis. Not exactly encouraging. |

If Ellis really doesn't play many games from here on in, it might go down as one of the most masterful cap dumps in league history. |

They are laying the groundwork for Ellis to miss a second year. |

Nashville hung up the phone the day of that deal and laughed uncontrollably. |

The entire situation just does not seem on the up and up. I have a very difficult time believing they do not know what is wrong. If there is something wrong. Without a doubt there is more to this story. |

The Kings and Fiala knew that the Wild couldn’t pay him. Guerin said he had to trade 3 players to keep him. Guerin wanted Faber. He skates pretty well and his transition game is good. But his offensive side is wanting.

I don't wish this on Ryan Ellis but the best thing for the Flyers would be his career to be over due to injury.

Still seems a little light for a productive player who seems on the upswing. |

Sure seems like the guy just wants to collect a paycheck and without having to set foot in Philly. |

I find this to be one of the most frustrating situations in recent Flyers history. Not that Ellis isn't entitled to some privacy regarding his recovery, but the Flyers seem to be deliberately obfuscating, in such a way as to suggest negligence on the team's part. Whether not seeing a pre-existing condition in the pre-trade medicals or misdiagnosing his original injury, there is, as you said, more to the story. |

I would be surprised if he plays again. The lack of strenuous on ice activity for so long is such a red flag. I hope I am wrong, but the update today did nothing to change my opinion.

Oh yeah I am seeing he wants 5 years at 8.5aav.
And yeah he is coming off a season where he put up 68 points....but the guy has to read the room. He is 35 years old and any team who signs him to that deal is on the hook for the whole thing as an over 35 contract.
I'm sure someone will give him that deal or something close. but in this case I think the Penguins are correct. - MBFlyerfan
pens have to give it to him. who gives a (frank) about the 5th year. this is where you are. |

Nope, we didn't hear that he's making solid progress and is on track for the camp and the season. He's training hard. What we heard was that it's multiple things all over the lower body that they're "trying" to get a hold of. Nothing encouraging.

I agree...I think that they're trying to avoid a very public Eichel type situation. Whatever the actual injuries are, Ellis doesn't want surgery (he burned an entire season to avoid it), so they're accommodating the player's wishes. If this course of treatment doesn't get him back on the ice for an extended amount of time, I suspect we'll then see a decision made by Ellis to get surgery or step away.
