That, but also just the fact that they really have no idea if or when he will.be able to play....They're hopeful he stays on track, but he still has more processes to go before he even skates. They have no idea if he'll be ready for training camp/next season. They're hoping to have a good idea by mid summer about what they might need to do.

Seeing all the other coaching staff go, It's odd that Williams is a holdover as an assistant, that's for sure. He was AV's guy, and only been here one year (albeit one of the worst seasons in the team's history).

Patterson has been with the Flyers for like 20 years, and Yula was a Comcast guy prior to assisting the Flyers and being officially named to the Flyers staff.

Splintering? I don't know if I agree with that, obviously he [Torts] is entitled to his opinion. I think its a bunch of good guys that got along but I think we have to get to is you can be a good guy and we can all get along but we have to hold each other accountable and I think that is more to what he [Torts] is getting at, and clearly that is where we need to get to and the players would recognize that as well.

Ok, you tell me how a bunch of talented professional hockey players come together on the Flyers and don't hold each other accountable? The captain IMO sets the tone for the rest of the team. Yes Giroux worked hard and lead by example, but its crystal clear to me he did not hold players in the room accountable, it just was not in his personality, and that spread quickly to the rest of the room. Its not all on Giroux, its the other veteran leaders on this team also, they have played a role, which is why I hope the next captain is Atkinson or Ellis if he could ever get back on the ice, we need someone from the outside to set the new tone for the team to follow.

I need an update on how Chris Stewart is doing on the player development side.

They fired Hextall because the team wasn't good enough fast enough. So how did he have the grace of not having to have a good team? You don't just instantly build a contender. First the clean up has to happen. The grace that Hextall didn't have was a patient and realistic management. As Bill Meltzer recently pointed out, the Avs quest took 13 years.

I don't doubt it can take that long, though I think the AVs have had the squad to contend for a few years now, while the Flyers were not and are not close. I would have been ok Hextall staying and given more rope but I do think the lack of development would have caught up to him eventually. If he stayed, they still would have been picking mid-teens or so, it is what it is..
