I’m not at all in favor of buying him out. I bet JvR could be an easy sell at half the price to a team like Toronto who is currently contending. Toronto knows JvR, they have a good power play but never quite replaced JvR in front of the net. I believe Tavares replaced JvR there, which is kind of a waste for Tarvares’ skill sets. Plus the Leafs PP is way too too heavy. All their stars are on one unit. What the return would be, I have no idea but I think JvR has a lot of value on a one year deal. - SuperSchennBros

Yeah the Leafs could really use JVR.... - hello it's me 2050
Yeah, they could.
Why would the leads sign Jason Spezza, Joe Thornton and Wayne Simmonds in recent years with the skill they have? You think they'd scoff at JvR at 3.5 million? A guy who had his best years with them and probably the only player scoring for us as our season was ending?

If you can't figure that out then do not know what to tell you. Funny you mention those 3 and JVR. None of those 3 are similar to JVR in any way at this stage of their careers.
Spezza played very well for them by the way.
Yes I think they scoff at JVR for 3.5 as he is not a need in any way for them.

Except Simmonds and Thornton were both used at net front presence at some point in their time there. It’s called watching the games.

Tavares is one of the top puck tippers in the league. He's always played near the net on the PP.

You think Thornton’s production of 20 points in a season on the top line is good play? With Matthews no less. - SuperSchennBros
It's actually not bad production at all for a guy who only played 13-14 mins per game and wasn't on PP1. He and Hyman were regularly swapped for each other depending on situation.
Again, he was pulling down $700k and signed for his veteran-ness as much as his play on the ice.

And where is Thornton now? It didn’t get him another year with the Leafs and he vanished with the Cats. Jumbo has been Yandle for awhile and matthews and Marner were doing the heavy lifting in those 13 minutes he played a night.
I’m sorry, maybe I am a stooge but if I’m a GM with a contending team, I’m jumping at a 20 goal scorer at 3.5 million with one year left.

If your team has unlimited cap space, yeah. Most contenders are in a cap crunch. Plus, Toronto is not hurting in the goals department. Unless JVR can be an improvement on Campbell in net, or the Flyers take Mrazek's contract back, it doesn't make any sense at all.
And Jumbo is almost 43-yo man. The fact that he can still contribute is amazing. And Leafs chose Spezza over him because he's almost 5-years younger.

Joe is not contributing though…
The wealth isn’t spread out in Toronto. They have major players who put up major points.

Here's a question... if TOR really wanted to spend $3-4M on a 20-goal man, why wouldn't they just re-up Miheyev?
And if they loved JVR that much, wouldn't it make sense for them to bank some cap space and then bring him in at the TDL instead of now? Like you said, their top-heavy lineup is enough to get them into the POs w/o JVR.
You're deflecting with all this talk about Jumbo, who only spent 1-season there and played well.

Spezza has outplayed that contract. All 3 for less than JVR. All 3 play a bottom line role overall. Just a terrible yet not surprising comparison.
If Cooley is on the board when the Flyers pick 5th they need to take him. He would give this team what it desperately needs(speed and skill at the forward position). Thanks! - Phillywhiteout
I guess we look at things differently which isn't all that rare. They could have picked him at 12 and 14, and they passed twice. Guess it's a matter of semantics. I have serious concerns about York. He plays a nice game, but he seems physically challenged and has already had injury issues. Let's just say if we had to do it over I'd still take Caufield(I actually threw my sneaker at the TV when they didn't take Caufield). - Phillywhiteout
The TV had nothing to do with the Flyers passing up on Colefield, numbnuts. (You're welcome!)
What is the role of a Captain in your opinion?
