There's a lot of teams i'd rather trade him to. If i'm trading him to Pittsburgh it's a much different ask . - golfingsince
I've cooled on Marino, I think they can do better.

Just because you don’t understand them doesn’t mean they’re useless. Your bias against Hughes only reinforces your lack of understanding |

Would rather see a deal with Columbus, Hurricanes, Devils. - VanHockeyGuy
All three make sense and have the assets to get it done. |

Saint John Sea Dogs, Memorial Cup Champs. |

“Congrats to the Saint John Sea Dogs, winners of the Memorial Cup. Beat the Hamilton Bulldogs 6-3. What a wild season for that team.”
Huge for those kids, unbelievable accomplishment. |

Who's your centerpiece? - golfingsince
Poulin is a 1st rounder that is developing nicely, Olivier is a good d prospect , a 2nd, and a top 4 dman is a pretty good haul. I guess if there is a centrepiece, its Poulin? |

Based on todays trade I think it may be tough to get a young roster player, high end prospect and first. Happy to be wrong. |

Marino is definitely the centrepiece of that deal |

Flames have a couple nice d prospects on that team.
Vincent Sevigny, the captain is an overage free agent. Worth signing, IMO |

So do I.
If i'm trading with the Penguins I want a bunch of FUTURE draft capital, a whopping pile of it when they're bottom half.
One NHL ready good player/prospect and the draft capital is what i'd seek from the Penguins. I mean a young player.
What they don't have in young talent they pay for in draft capital. They pay a premium or you trade with another team, simple as that.
Lefty thinks Hextall's a genius though if i'm not mistaken so maybe trading with them is the wrong idea altogether. |

As usual, he is far behind me, especially intelligence-wise. |

I just don't see a centerpiece. It's a bunch of decent young talent.
When you're trading a what top 10 scorer?
You absolutely have to get that potential back in a trade......and more. 1 in the hand is worth 2 in the bush.
Really though you need a player that can/will become that level at least for a couple of years, and much more because you're giving up the sure thing. |

I understand.
They do want an immediate return. You can't totally give up on future 1sts though, even in 2024 and beyond as part of the package. There are so many scenarios in which a trade makes sense. Trades with different organizations don't have to look similar in order to be great trades. |

You sense the management group is comfortable in silence leading up to the draft. The only leaks have been by them. |

JR has brought in a huge team of people to make assessments. This will likely be the most hands on year of his tenure. He's in his 70's FFS.
I don't care what anyone says, there's a pile of hockey wisdom to pass on to the new team. Alvin is his chosen manager, but they keep bringing in talent.
It's much more promising than a former legend and his hand picked selection of the assistant to the team that beat us. |

I'd be surprised if JR was with VAN for more than 2 years.
