With 16 players. It should be easy, but it seems like they want to pay everyone else league minimum.

Why spend $ when you can trade VO and bring in 2 more Bishops?

That is what happens when they think they are playing chess.

The fact that tampa identified mcdonagh as the one to move kinda says something. And he brought other qualities to the table in addition to the shot blocking. It's not a bad attribute, but if its the lead in someones profile thats cause for concern. Sergachev was actually middle of the pack in shot blocks/60 in the playoffs.

A 6th for Zaitsev? Its not bad its just...why? He's got 2 years at a cap hit well above his worth.

It says a two time cup winning Dman at 32 and earning $6.75 on a team that is over the Cap, could both be attractive enough to a contender for them to add him to their blueline. He is a key component in The Bolts suceeding at morphing to a shut down team in close games. McDonagh is a shut down Dman who leads by example, plays tough competition and is respected by coaches and teammates alike. His contract is high, given his age and the team need to shed significant Cap.
It is the unfortunate part of a Cap system on a loaded team...just can't keep the band together.

Guys like him often fall off a cliff when you get to his age. The dude is a flat out warrior but they were smart to get out from his contract now, especially since they need the space.

it was an easy choice

keep Hedman and Sergachev and move the older Mcdonagh

in a non cap world he would not have been moved

The rumors of Philly move 5OA+++ for Debrincat are hilarious. That team might be 10 players away from being respectable.

I can see the point everyone is making regarding mcdonagh and the cap, but that was my original point.

The cap forced them to make a decision, and they identified mcdonagh as the guy to move on from. Since the original discussion centred around the value of shot blocking and puck retrieval, we can see why tampa makes this decision.

6+ mil for a shot blocker whose puck possession numbers are on the decline is bad value, much like Zaitsev would be. Granted McDonagh is a lot better and am not totally sure he's a direct comparable.

Listen I love Afinogenov more than anything in the world, Ron but even I know that teaching our young players to skate 100mph into the offensive zone, circling around the back of the net and whipping the puck out front expecting Vanek's lazy ass to be there for the one-timer is a bad idea.

Max never made it behind the net because he would lose the puck I the corner, well before he would have gotten behind the net.

Vanek is the most unappreciated sabre of the last 20 years.

From our perspective it is too bad that he accepted the trade as his leavibg probably allows Palat to stay. I don't k ow if I make the same decision as he did if I was as hOoy as he was there.
