power, quinn and peterka will not be prospects in the fall

so yeah I doubt we pick 3 better guys then those that graduate to the sabres

but keep going

- homiedclown

Just look how hard some of you have to work to try to put a damper on what is going on with this team.

- "We haven't won in 11 years so we must continue to wear a scarlett letter"
- "This is all a mirage because the sole reaosn for getting better was losing Ralph"
- "We're graduating 3 top prospects (which is normally a good thing) so now our prospect pool might only be #2 or #3 instead of #1"

That just seems exhausting to me. The future is incredibly bright. I get that people feel that weight of the drought - I do too. But it doesn't have to cloud your judgement or make you less excited about what is going on.

I'll only speak for myself, but I think Adams has been telling (and showing) us his plan for months. I can't see them making a move for a better goalie unless the music stops for Holtby and the last chair is in Buffalo

I’m not disagreeing with you.

They could make all of their picks this year and still make some waves in the trade/free agent market to satisfy the above.

From the indications though, they are punting to next offseason to make their big moves, and he is setting himself up for a make or break offseason.

- Pegullaville

Who's up for grabs next offseason?

Here's the problem. It's doubtful you're going to be able to get enough high-end free agents to want to sign here next year, especially if you "stay the course", which will most likely mean missing the playoffs by a mile again next year. A locker room where guys all feel good about themselves might be good enough to lure veterans towards the end of their careers, or middle of the pack players looking for the biggest payday, but it's not going to get the high end guys here, not in this market.

We saw this song and dance in 2011 when the Pegulas bought the team. We were all sure big name FAs wanted to come here because Terry was building Hockey Heaven. Instead, we had to beg Robyn Regehr to waive his no trade clause, sign Christian Ehrhoff to a massive deal that the league changed the rules for (I admit, I loved that deal at the time), and Ville Leino. We were all shocked when Brad Richards wouldn't even give the Sabres an audience. If the team still doesn't make signficant waves in the win column, players won't want to come here, no matter how "great the locker room is". That's just not enough of a sell to the players that matter.

Now, there is always the trade route, but nothing Adams has done has indicated that he's willing, let alone able to pull off those savvy type moves.

he taps the brakes

makes perfect sense

- homiedclown

Understand ur point
But wouldn't 2 years from now with 8 top 50 picks
Be better for prospect pool

Welp,
- Power likely takes a couple years to develop
- Samuelsson probably takes a couple years to develop
- Dahlin certainly can take another year to more fully develop
- Bryson could certainly need another year to develop
- Cozens needs another couple of years to develop
- Krebs needs a couple more years develop
- Mitts needs another season to develop
- Tage needs another year of developing his consistency
- UPL needs another year of development in the AHL
- JJP needs a couple years to develop
- Quinn needs a couple years to develop
- Asplund needs another year of development
- Girgenson needs his last contract year to skate the F out of here

Tuch, Okposso, Skinner and Olofsson are ready to compete though

None of the above restricts Adams from making a deal for a top 4 Dman and a starting G for 2 years. I don't want them to make a deal for a top 6 F...I rather see how the aforementioned F's develop.

It doesn't excite me at all either. What I don't get is why it is upsetting. I'd be upset if they brought Eakin back because he would have to play. My hope is that Anderson is the third goalie.

Absolutely. As was said earlier, I think everyone would be unhappy IF they run back only Anderson and UPL. But this whole discussion is like some kind of straw man argument. People are talking about the theoretical as if it already happened. It is apparently human nature to want to swallow swords all day long.

Because there's a better chance of me winning the Powerball without even buying a ticket than Anderson playing 17 games this year, let alone winning them.
- buffalofan19

Give me some odds if your so confident.

Upl is an injury machine
Lunaion 's guy tokarski isnt the answer and unsigned

Goalies get hurt though out the nhl.

you have a hole in net, and you make the choice to bring back an aging over the hill craig anderson

settling for a guy that wants to be here

this move could have been made in late august if we whiffed on a goalie this summer

Now hang on here I was told that they couldn’t trade for Fiala because they do not have the prospect pool the kings have.

so which is it are they loaded up front or they don’t have a good enough pool to be able to get rid of a first and mid-high prospect

give or take

- homiedclown

Get lost. I reported one of Elliot Friedman’s 32 thoughts passages around the end of the season. “NHL exec said Dahlin Power and Samuelson in the top 4 is going to be a real problem and not for the Sabres.” Everyone knows what’s coming. Players know it, other teams and their fans know it. No way GMKA and Granato don’t know it. And no way the character guys they appear to be tell their players that we’re just gonna wait another year or TWO (that’s what we’re going with now?) before we try to improve the team.

It's not even the fact that they brought back Craig Anderson. It's that there was no hurry to do so. If they took some swings via trade and free agency and came up empty, it would be a different story. You don't make a paper move and re-sign the oldest goaltender in hockey (I think) in June if you plan on upgrading.

I really hope I'm wrong, but unless Kevyn Adams has a knack for (frank)ing with peoples' heads, his plan is already written on the wall pretty clearly.

I am excited about the potential that is seemingly there but to that extent it’s just potential we’ve seen multiple times to multiple organizations draft picks with high hopes flame out all the time
