I am sure Adams is more than open to making a hockey move for a younger guy.

if your team is full of young guys, how are you going to keep them all when raises are due?

that plan leaves a short window to win

I agree homie, Now is the time to Tim Murray this thing but on a smaller scale.

right, that is where all your picks from this draft and the last few drafts are for, filling those gaps

instead we are waiting 3 more years for those guys

- homiedclown

This has nothing to do with those picks. For example, don't want we want to find the long-term answer to who is going to play with Dahlin and Power? I want both of those two to be front and center and have thrived in all situations. I don't want to see Malkin on PP1 or out there at the end of the game when we are trying to tie a game. I want the kids to be in those situations.

The argument against bringing in these kinds of guys is that one of the most impressive things that Meatballs has done is to lets the kids play in all of the key spots: end of game (winning or losing), pp, shorthanded, etc. Would we be better next year if we brought in Malkin and Letang? Sure, of course. I'd rather see the kids play in those spots rather than guys who aren't going to be here in 3 years when the window is wide freaking open.

I think Adams is wise to stay the course.

If that becomes a problem then we are in a very, very good position. So in the previous post you worried that some of them might get hurt and now we're worried that they are all superstars?

wait and overpay to retain the core is not a good plan given all this young talent and cap space right now

That's just it. If they had just signed Anderson, you might have an argument, but couple that with the Bishop move and you're likely looking at a boring offseason. Adams made a cap floor move in June. Teams looking to make significant upgrades don't do that before free agency let alone before the draft.

And yes, I am well aware of his explanation yesterday about agents and negotiation leverage, and it was incredibly eye-roll worthy. It reeks of either paranoia or bullpoop, and neither one is a good thing for hopes of seeing a significantly improved team next year.

Adams has been clear and consistent since the '22 TDL.
This offseason was always going to be boring.

Time to mix in some proven vet scoring. Malkin, P-Kane, ETC....

He played really well for much of the season and then struggled later on, possibly to due to over-use. I think his stats ended up bring pretty average when you put it altogether. He looked like a star compared to the other scrubs we ran out there (other than UPL).
- Slump Buster

Tokarski was pretty much equal, arguably better. Neither were anywhere close to average.

Craig and UPL will get games behind the starter. Mark it down.
- TheSabresTaco

They're gonna rotate as the starter. ON NHL radio this morning they said that Buffalo was fine with those two rotating as starter to see if UPL could handle more work and they are fine being patient and waiting until one of the goalie prospects can take over.

I really don't think so. His last interview wasn't exactly beaming confidence for UPL to start here. He definitely sounded like he wants him to get more games.

I used to be all in on thinking UPL was happening but after the season he had and the injuries, and now with them signing Craig as a known backup... I honest to God think they're going after a vet goalie.

60 ahl games

The forward group still has a very low ceiling. Even if everyone hits their projections, which is incredibly rare, you're looking at a ceiling of a perennial wildcard/maybe 3rd seed. It's almost as if they're building to be the Sabres of the late 80s/early 90s, where they never could beat Boston in the first round. The league already has Toronto for that.

If you're going to ice a team below the cap floor, I'd rather get a good look at UPL.

He was by far their best goalie last year and this is his final waiver-exempt year. It was stupid not to give him more games last year.
